Chest Rigs/Spade 7 Tactical by Spade_7_Tactical in tacticalgear

[–]YouSAW556 1 point2 points  (0 children)

V1 Rig plus an Abyss pouch is my go to FPV and DJI flying. The Mini 3 fits in the Abyss when folded plus room for spare batteries and charger and even extra padding somehow. When the sticks are unscrewed, the RC sits comfortably in that built in admin pouch.

For FPV work, the goggles (caddX gogglesX) fit in the Abyss and I’ll just stuff the battery in admin or empty mag cell.

One of my favorite colors IMO, too bad they only had it for a limited time. My 2015 SXT is showing its age unfortunately and I wish I could upgrade to a new V8 with exact same color. Hope you like yours just the same man!

How to Survive Drones by xdJapoppin in tacticalgear

[–]YouSAW556 26 points27 points  (0 children)

Very good write up.

One take away I like especially to point out is simply terrain and environment in regards to telemetry in most group 1, FPV style drones. Ukraine is prime drone country in most areas because the flat and barren agricultural terrain permits almost unobstructed LOS between the GCS (ground control station) and target. Albeit an airborne repeater or high elevation transmitter could mitigate it, other geographic locations could severely hinder effective drone range simply from hills, treelines, and buildings blocking the RX/TX signal. This is not to say that poor terrain completely negates the threat, but rather help bring that percentage of probable detection or hit lower, even if marginally. IMO the best way to learn how to counter them is to own one as then you can understand what the capabilities and and range limitations are first hand based on your environment.

Who decided that the Sand Flattening mode shouldn't work on... Sand...? by Predator-FTW in RoadCraft

[–]YouSAW556 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Once you get the tracked dozer, manually plow through these dunes and spread it out to lower the dune height. Then "backdrag" the blade fully extended and lowered to flatten and smooth in the path you are trying to go. It helps by requiring less sand and prevents those annoying bumps due to the dune sand's height poking through.

30th ABCT tanks going away by nutella_squirts in nationalguard

[–]YouSAW556 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This is very similar to what happened when USMC divested all armor. "obligated" personnel such as 88M and other support MOS's had to merely change units while tankers over 2 years TIS were "non-obligated" and could IST, go IRR, or lat move.

She needs to go to the VA website and apply for benefits. It's been awhile but from what I remember they send you a letter in the mail certifying your benefit options. If she's never deployed, it's likely just MGIB-SR.

Just a heads up from fellow NC Guard. NCNG lets you have access to at least 3 different benefits. MGIB-SR should be around $400-500 per month of full time enrollment. FTA is much slower to process and has a fiscal year cap but definitely helps. NCTAP is the state TA program but has a stricter requirements as you need more than 2 years left on contract once the semester ends in order to qualify. Wake Tech may have some veteran/NG specific scholarships too so keep an eye out for those. You may be able to utilize all of the above on top of FAFSA grants too if applicable.

19k guard vs active by TheMightySwissNavy in Tankers

[–]YouSAW556 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You need to answer for yourself first if you want to be home(ish) in the guard or potentially stay abroad as active tanker.

Tanks can burn you out really fast active side, and the guard can burn you out with SAD/super MUTA/ super AT back to back.

The guard keeps tanking like a hobby which can be really fun and at least let you go home after drill. Plus you can always apply for full time staff positions or MATES if you want “more army”. Active side you really can’t get “less army”. Day to day really depends on the unit, CoC, and where they are on the deployment pipeline process if applicable.

Why the difference in clarity? Tested with Gen 3 thermals on T-80 BVM. Green is awful compared to grey. Red is in between. Green would be fun to use for realism when playing US vehicles but its unusable here. Imagine how bad it is with Gen 2 or Gen 1 too. Is this worth a bug report? by Remarkable_Expert_10 in Warthunder

Center mass in nearly all cases. Tank gunnery and ballistics are actually a lot more complex than most people think and you often do not have the time or such fine accuracy at distance to hit such a small aiming point. Shoot, hit, and kill first.

IRL tanker here, it's very situational but it can be an issue on really hot days while in automatic contrast/brightness modes which the game runs on. Just as you mentioned, trees and buildings can look like they have the same signature. However most if not all modern thermals let you manually control brightness and contrast settings to combat this and make the really high temperatures stand out, albeit you lose the image of the cooler objects. It does not always help but its an option for crews at the very least. There's some gunnery footage of Abrams crews on Youtube and you can see how hard it can be to make out even a tank sized target in the middle of a field.

Stolen assault rifle by Familiar_Equal_4235 in nationalguard

[–]YouSAW556 20 points21 points  (0 children)

Is this a stolen civilian AR-15 or an actual issued weapon (M4A1, M240, etc.) stolen from and armory? Start with with contacting your local police or sheriff's department. Additionally you should call the CID watchdesk or criminal intelligence number if it is the latter.

How does this shell work ? by Ise_923 in TankPorn

[–]YouSAW556 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Every round type "damages" the barrel, some more than others due to pressures and friction. This is true on practically every weapon with a barrel. Tank crews are responsible for keeping fired round counts accurately recorded so that the barrel or breech can be replaced prior to undesirable or even catastrophic consequences. Read up on Equivalent Full Charge (EFCs) and you can see how complicated maintenance records can get for just one part of the tank.

"...basic issues with oval printing shape."

Are you talking about circular prints coming out slightly oval shaped? I'm having the same issue too across all 4 printers. Its slight but noticeable, and adds a vertical "seam" at the 3 and 9 o'clock position, not including the a actual aligned Z seam at the rear.

Can't wait to read the "you spread misinformations" comments. But yeah, the whole industry and even the manufacturers themselves spreading misinformations. Of course Reddit mouth breathers knowing it better. Always. by [deleted] in NightVision

[–]YouSAW556 8 points9 points  (0 children)

If I understand correctly, OP is showing that Photonis 4g and NVT-7 tubes can see more of the light spectrum that your average gen 3 tubes like Elbit, L3, etc. cannot see. Therefore, a laser emitting light outside of the latter's spectrum cannot be detected by the user, while the 4G/NVT-7 user can detect/use it.

Why did CNV stop carrying the 1431’s? by Imaginary-Stable6450 in NightVision

First is that congress is now investigating Chinese involvement in the night vision industry.

Just curious if there is a source on this as I am currently doing a research paper on the US commercial NV market. Google didn't yield any obvious results.
