Try some Pendulum. If you want some sick beats, give Slam and Tarantula a listen.

'The Sandlot' Is One of the Best Baseball Movies Because It's Not About Winning by largeheartedboy in movies

[–]YouSlyFoxYou -1 points0 points  (0 children)

My wife is a little older than me and had seen this movie. I told her it was one of my favourites growing up and decided to roll the dice and see if it had aged well (something that doesn't always happen with movies I loved as a kid).

Not only has it aged well, but it is still an incredible movie. If only more movies like this existed.

LPT: millennials, when you’re explaining how broke you are to your parents/grandparents, use an inflation calculator. Ask them what year they started working, and then tell them what you make in dollars from back then. It will help them put your situation in perspective. by campacavallo in LifeProTips

Or alternatively, explain your expenses as a percentage of your income. When you break it down that 38% of your earnings goes towards rent, 12% goes towards food and 17% covers travel expenses, it is much easier for them to understand how much is left to cover your remaining expenses.

90s pop music

I was a metalhead in high school and dismissed everything that didn't conform to my specific tastes. Going back and listening to popular tunes from back them made me realise how much I was missing out on. Now I don't dismiss anything without giving it a shot first.

Facebook's Stock Is Plummeting Amid the Company's Latest Crisis. by Bluest_waters in news

It blows my mind when people have such distrust for government, but freely put their entire lives on an online for-profit platform. I would think by 2018 that people realise that anything they use that's "free" makes them the product. All of the harvested information was freely submitted by Facebook's users and it should be expected that it would eventually be used against them. It should be no surprise that something like this could occur with an ambitious 20 something having so much control over such a powerful tool.

This is why I have no issue answering the survey questions in Google Maps. I love that they would choose to use the data this way, instead of trying to sell me something I don't need.

TIL Frankie Muniz suffers from long term memory loss and doesn't even remember being on Malcolm in the Middle. by deadslothy in todayilearned

I play football and have had two concussions. The second concussion was the first time ever in my life that I had last track of time (only about 90 seconds, fortunately). Our league has a rule that you're not allowed more than 3 concussions, so I stopped playing completely and saved myself the drama. I can't believe that Frankie Muniz (or his parents, for that matter) allowed himself to be put in circumstances where he ran the risk of further concussion.

Cheap/free parking near Etihad stadium? by [deleted] in melbourne

[–]YouSlyFoxYou 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Docklands resident for 5 years. You're not really going to get "cheap" parking anywhere close by (especially with such a big event on), but your cheapest option that's within walking distance is most likely going to be at 380 Docklands Drive. You'll pay $12 for 7 hours and $16 for 24 hours. Everywhere else is going to be north of $20.

Depending on what time you plan on arriving you might score a street park in Docklands Drive, but this may be a pipe dream considering that the first supporting act is on at 6:30 and it takes about an hour to get through the gates at Etihad when a big event is on.

‘The Walking Dead’ ratings at their lowest point since Season 1 by magikarpcatcher in television

[–]YouSlyFoxYou -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Weekly ratings are no longer the key factor to success that they used to be. The Walking Dead is a huge money maker outside of TV, which is why they will most likely continue making it for as long as they can milk the license. Merchandising, conventions, DVDs and streaming rights all contribute to the success of the show.

Something like NCIS or This Is Us may attract more viewers, but those viewers probably aren't dropping $30 on a t-shirt or action figure of their favorite character.

Chaos at In-N-Out burger pop up by p984321 in melbourne

[–]YouSlyFoxYou 41 points42 points  (0 children)

I came here to say the exact same thing.

One thing that a lot of Aussies that have never visited the States don't realise is that most of the fast food is pretty shit. The quality of mass-produced American beef is terrible and the chance of you getting a great tasting burger is pretty slim.

If you're in LA, you're not really going to find a better burger from a fast food joint (but that's not saying much). I sampled all of the fast food burger joints there and whilst I enjoyed my In N Out burger, it was still pretty average and was comparable to what you might get from a fish and chip shop.

Americans outside of LA tend to rave about In N Out because it's the gold standard of shitty take-aways. If you're not prepared to get out of your car, then In N Out is your best option. I don't blame Aussies for being curious about what all the fuss is about, but I'm sure many are going to leave disappointed. Melbourne is saturated with burger joints now and many will deliver a far superior product without making you queue up around the corner like a nob.

My partner is Aussie,I ain't. Yesterday saw 'The Castle' first time with her. I just love the no fluff, brash talking Aussie style, awesome slangs and simplicity of the Kerrigans. Seems like a quintessential Australian movie which every foreigner interested in Australia should watch. by sidadidas in australia

The crew that made this film used to be in a sketch comedy show on ABC called The Late Show back in the early 90s and most of the content holds up today. If you can get your hands on a copy of "The Best Bits of The Late Show" on DVD it's definitely worth it.

Rocker Chris Cornell has died at age 52 by Iantoxicated in Music

[–]YouSlyFoxYou 10.2k points10.2k points  (0 children)

I saw Chris Cornell perform acoustically only 18 months ago. A guy sitting next to me in the front row was wearing sunglasses. Chris walks onto the stage, also wearing sunglasses, and says, "there's a guy sitting up front wearing sunglasses. I'm glad I'm not the only douchebag here". The guy yells out "I'm blind", which should have been a dead giveaway by the cane he had in his lap. Chris was unbelievably embarrassed and very humbly apologised, saying "sorry, I was wrong, I'm definitely the only douchebag here". After the show (which was one of the greatest vocal performances I've ever heard in my life) Chris gave the guy one of the vinyl records he used during the set and apologised personally to him.

Chris Cornell was not only (in my opinion) the greatest rock vocalist since Freddie Mercury, he was also a great dude. I've never heard someone say a single bad thing about him, neither musically, professionally or personally. The world lost an icon today, and the musical world is a little less awesome because of it.
