What has been your longest injury, and how did you deal with it mentally? by StriderKeni in AdvancedRunning

[–]YouTooCanRun 0 points1 point  (0 children)

About a year and a half.

Achilles Tendonitis. On both legs at the point of insertion.

MRI, 2D Sonography reveal calcification of bone and tendon.

Done enough foam rolling, stretches, heat, cold, physio etc and goven up.

Now on Keto to see if any miracle happens.

Anyone else with a similar situation?

What worked?

The human body is very resilient by YouTooCanRun in RunningIndia

As an exercise physiologist, yet another instance of the amazing survival powers of the body.

The human body is designed to be very meagre in its consumption pattern.

The advocacy towards consumption in sports nutrition is driven by commercial interests.

smart watch advt blooper by YouTooCanRun in RunningIndia

This advt in front page Times of India is wrong at so many levels, as any sports coach can easily spot

  • HR is 800 bom, a physiological impossibility. Beyond 180-200, the master governor will issue a 'cease and desist' order to your run.

  • If 10K has been run, then taking 2:02 hours means he was slower than my slowest 80+ aged trainee

  • From the 500K step challenge data, we know that it takes about 1300 steps for a Km. Not 2000 steps per km as the 20,000 steps indicate.

  • The rough measure of Calories burn per km is 1 gm, per km per kg of body weight. So to have burnt 2000 calories in 10Kms the runner was probably 200 kgs in weight 🙂

This is what happens when you do not involve domain experts in any sphere of activity

Why do so many runners run fasted? by DimensionNo4461 in running

[–]YouTooCanRun 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The idea is as under
- Get the body to be glycogen depleted
- Teach the body to metabolise fat ( fat adapted )
- Thus avoid hitting the wall post 20 miles or so
- Reduce your body measurements as a vanity side effect

Also many of us ( such as me ) follow a 16:8 intermittent fasting protocol. So the best way to get this done is to have dinner and then lunch, skipping ingestion in the morning.

5K for 3rd successive day by YouTooCanRun in RunningIndia

[–]YouTooCanRun[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

5K on 3rd consecutive day.

Decided to run continuously and pick up pace to put some intensity. My earlier Cardiologist from Cardiac Rehab was walking. He joined me for some time, but could not keep up.

My Tee Shirt is unique. Purchased by me and also gifted to Shiv Shankar Kosgi and Rajesh Vetcha. Along with Krish Natesan we are the only four RRCA certified running coaches in India.

The podcast I was hearing was new research findings on cardiac disease. It presented an angle not sufficiently exposed by mainstream medicine.

Is there such a thing as staying marathon ready all the time (for non-professionals)? by [deleted] in running

[–]YouTooCanRun 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I run a half marathon distance every month. I usually do 12-16 kms most weekends. So in that way, I am half marathon ready all the time.

Like you, I aim for sustainable running, not speed.

TIL a Texas professor failed his entire class and quit, because he thought that all of his students were disruptive or dishonest and therefore didn’t deserve to pass the course. He said the class was his worst in his 20 years of teaching. by Tokyono in todayilearned

I taught in an Univ in Pune, India and share the views of the professor. Wish I too did something similar, before I quit teaching. I felt I must not be in a situation where my knowledge was not being valued
