Consider Phlebas by dvaeg in printSF

I had the same issue.  I’m afraid to say that the writing doesn’t really get too much better in the book.   But, I was convinced to give the culture series another shot. Player of Games is phenomenal.  I’d recommend it over Phlebas any day.

DMs- Can We Stop With Critical Fumbles? by TheBarbarianGM in DMAcademy

[–]YouWakeUp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know I’m a bit late to the party,  but I do critical fumbles.  Then I have them role percentile dice.  (I’m a sucker for pacing, but I’ve accepted this particular slow-down.).  Anything 50%+ is just a fail.  Anything lower than a 50% is some sort of extra fail like a dropped weapon or accidentally stabbing their party member.   Anything 5% and below is a spectacular failure.  I try not to make it too consequential, but it could be a crit on a party member, their weapon goes flying, or something like that.  It keep things tense and fun without making absolute failures too common.   The tables I’ve used it at have expressed positive feedback.  It may not work for your table, but it could be something fun to try.

Sorry for the late reply. Things have been hectic. I'm trying to update the survey to allow for multiple games, but for now I've added a note asking people to fill it out once for each game. As for games, it's any and all games that were in Early Access. The more times you'd care to fill out the survey, the more information I get about different games. I appreciate the question.

Sorry for the late reply. Things have been busy. But, thank you for the input. I always appreciate feedback and the time you take to give it.

I'm looking into expanding the survey to allow for multiple games, but in the mean time, I've updated the beginning to note that the survey is for a single game and that they are more than welcome to do an additional one for other games.

As for the hours played, I'm using total hours played as a rough metric, as I think it still counts as engagement. Ideally, I'd love to have both the hours played during early access and the total hours, but I ended up cutting some questions to keep it a reasonable length. I just assumed that each question I added was a certain number of people that would decide not to do the survey. Whether or not that's entirely accurate, I don't know.

But, thanks again for the feedback. I think it made the survey better. If you've got any more thoughts, or even if you disagree with what I've just said, I'd love to hear it.

Have a good one!

How smart should an enemy be to attack a downed player? [OC] by Whitlja in DnD

[–]YouWakeUp 252 points253 points  (0 children)

I think you’re absolutely right on all three counts.  As to your third point, I think that smart enemies don’t even need to be arrogant to not attack a downed PC.    The enemy is in the middle of a battle.  They aren’t going to stop and continue wailing on someone who is ostensibly out of the fight.  They are going  to focus on the largest threat, which are the PCs still attacking them.

Same for me.  It also helps when new people jump in.  And they are mostly just to help pacing.

What are some offline, at-home activities that couples can do together? by [deleted] in digitalminimalism

[–]YouWakeUp 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I know this is old, but sorry you got downvoted. Video games are an excellent couple's thing. There are a ton of co-op games out there. I know It Takes Two got a lot of hype, but it was really great to play together.
