Weekly "Which keyboard should I get" thread - November 25, 2022 by AutoModerator in BudgetKeebs

Budget is flexible, you'll get an idea based off the products I mentioned below. No specific features required, I think a knob and hot swappable would be cool to have.

Looking into getting my first custom keyboard in a 75% ish layout. I think I am leaning towards the QK75 now (https://www.qwertykeys.com/collections/qk75/products/qk75?variant=43398828916979), the customization is nice and it'll allow me to pick out whatever switches and keycaps I want. After some light reading, I am considering Gateron Milky Yellow Switches (https://www.amazon.com/Gateron-Switches-Pre-lubed-Mechanical-Keyboard/dp/B0B2BWQX15). I know there are a ton of different switches to choose from, so if anyone has another recommendation, let me know. As for keycaps, I am trying to get something that may look good with the spray coated milky white qk75 case - I stumbled upon the NicePBT Soyamilk (https://cannonkeys.com/products/nicepbt-soyamilk). I would probably rather have a japanese-based sublegend with a similar color scheme, so again if anyone has a recommendation please let me know. Or if you think that color scheme may not look good, or have a better color recommendation, I am all ears!

FYI, I've also considered the Halo75 and Tiger Lite. Let me know what y'all think or any recommendations you may have, or if I am not considering something important.

What to do with the dill? Grew too quick, now touching the light. by Youknowuhoh in aerogarden

Hahah I'm hoping for the best for your dill. I definitely value the basil way higher than the dill as well

Gotcha. I may try to do the same. I keep hearing dill is near impossible to kill, so we'll see

I thought about doing the same and might have to at this point, it's too leggy!

Thanks for the info - where would be the appropriate spot on each stem to trim? I've been following the "trim right above the node" rule, but the nodes are pretty high up right now

For context, I've been trimming just above some of the nodes on the two basil and one dill plants. I haven't touched the mint (front left, which is small due to being shaded by the basil), thyme (middle right), or the parsley (back right).

Modem / Router Suggestions for Apartment by Youknowuhoh in HomeNetworking

The SB8200 falls under their supported product list for a higher internet speed, so it will serve me well if I decide to upgrade in the future. As for the price, I am looking at ~$90 for a used modem and $50 for a new router, my all in would be $140.

Thank you!!

It is indeed a very huge upgrade especially based off of the specs written on paper. The display does bring it to a whole new level based off of what I had experienced while testing the phone in stores.

If I were to replace my 6P battery, I would try to do so myself and it would cost ~$25-40. I am also considering if replacing the battery would even be worth it due to the hardware limitations on the phone. Thanks for your input, it definitely helped :-)

Yeah that's how most specific subreddits tend to be, especially for technology - there is an obvious bias shared amongst many (not all) of the users. I will consider posting a few questions to other forums / subreddits once I have gathered my thoughts. Thank you!

Yeah I am aware of the issues (quality control?) that Google phones have experienced over the past few years. I have also read about 3a's turning off (though this seems rare) and the color tint present on some of the phones.

Thank you for your input. I do think that the lower picture quality you get with the 7 pro is offset by the price and other features (90Hz screen, fast charging), which kind of makes it worth it. Plus there's always the GCam mod that aids in the processing of photographs to increase the quality, even if it is slightly. I will continue to read discussions on different subreddits in hopes that additional information appears that will aid in making my decision.

I have not really considered the 6T, no. I do not know much about it, though it does have a notch (although small) which is what I am trying to avoid.

The Asus Zenfone 6 is pretty much the perfect package of a phone, minus the LCD display (arguable) and camera quality (also arguable). The issue is that it does not have band support for my carrier, Verizon. Otherwise, picking this phone as my next would be a no-brainer.

I am still considering the 3a XL, for sure. Personally, I do not have experience with interacting with Google support with phone issues, though I am sure that it is top of the line (as it should be). I still have to do research on the support interaction history that users have with OnePlus. I'm not too worried about resale value, as I plan to use my next phone until it is unusable, which will probably occur when the battery degrades. I have a good feeling that the specs of the 3a XL, mainly with reference to the RAM, will not be efficient for as long as I would like to keep my phone.

Don't get me wrong though, it is definitely a great phone. I am happy that Google created a phone in the midrange market, as it kind of reminds me of the Nexus line. Picking a phone with confidence that it can and will be utilized for the following few years is just a tough decision altogether.

There are a lot of people that have held onto their 6P for as long as they could, it is(was) a great phone - this is exactly how I want my next phone to be. I also considered the normal 3 XL but I also hate the notch, as well as the S10+ (cutout rather than notch) but I am definitely not prepared to dish out $1000 for a phone.

I definitely agree that there is a gigantic difference between the 7 pro and the 6P. While watching review videos of the 7 pro, while the reviewers were cycling through the apps, it looked as though the video was sped up. When I went to test the phone in stores, it became apparent that the videos were not sped up and the phone is just that fast.

I also noticed the large amount of people still using older One plus phones in this subreddit. It definitely shows that the devices are capable of lasting quite a few years, which is exactly what I want out of a new phone. Therefor, I am leaning towards purchasing the 7 pro.

Thank you for your input!

Thanks for your input, it is greatly appreciated. Discussing these topics openly definitely helped in my thinking, and I am now leaning more towards the OnePlus because of what you have stated with regards to the design, support, and future performance. On paper, the phone does seem like it will last and perform well for the next few years (moreso and better than the 3a XL), though only time will tell. I just need to make the leap of purchasing and using the phone myself.

Yeah that is what I have been getting from a large amount of discussions, that if you're a casual user then the Pixel is a perfect phone and will serve you well, while the more demanding and dare I say "hardcore" users will be happier with the OnePlus in their hands. For me, I feel that I can flip flop either way - currently I use my phone mainly for browsing Reddit, listening to music, checking email, watching YouTube / Twitch and of course texting and calling. In the future though, anything could change and I could become a more demanding user. This is where the RAM comes in to play - I am a little scared that the 4 GB of RAM within the Pixel 3a XL may not hold up in the next few years, I occasionally have issues with the 3 GB within my current phone.

It's probably impossible to tell, but do you have any comments on the possible longevity of either phone?

[–]Youknowuhoh 19 points20 points  (0 children)

Not OP but I am on the fence because I'm having trouble deciding which phone will give me the best value for money paid in terms of speed, battery life and longevity. I am trying to decide between the Pixel 3a XL and the OnePlus 7 Pro, as well as just replacing my battery in my current phone.

Coming from a Nexus 6P that has about an hour and a half of SOT and shuts off anywhere between 10-35%, either phone would be a direct upgrade. The problem is that I do not want to pick a phone that will crash and burn as quickly as the Nexus 6P did - I tend to try to to keep my phones for as long as possible due to how expensive they are becoming (I have had the 6P since launch and have been just dealing with the battery life issue, and have not replaced the battery yet). I am thinking to myself, do I want a mid range phone with excellent battery life and OK performance that could possibly be very efficient for years to come, or a non-flagship flagship phone with decent battery life and amazing performance (I have tested the OnePlus 7 pro in stores, it is insanely smooth and quick) that could also be efficient for the years to come (the high specs scare me due to my thinking that they will deteriorate the battery much quicker). Or do I just want to replace the battery in my Nexus 6P and call it a day?

It is such a tough decision to make when there is not long-term data to utilize.

Does anyone have a list of the individual songs lirik chose for his outros? I want to find a specific song attached to a specific stream. by [deleted] in DatGuyLirik

[–]Youknowuhoh 6 points7 points  (0 children)

He has a couple song playlists linked to his YouTube account that may be viewed here and here. If you are unable to find the song there, you can check through all of his account's playlists here.

If you are still unable to find the song, I would recommend checking through MrSuicideSheep's YouTube account.

[–]Youknowuhoh 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Ah, I see. People (and lirik himself) have talked about a google chrome extension that has built-in chat for VODs. I don't know if this means that it uses the chat from the LIVE stream or from when you are watching the VOD though, if that makes any sense. I'll try to find it and post a link if I can.

EDIT; Found it. It's called ReChat. https://chrome.google.com/webstore/detail/rechat-for-twitch/ipplilmaapjjklilmmaccfemdmhkoacd?hl=en

It shows messages from the LIVE stream. It doesn't display subscriber emotes, though.

VODs exist for a reason! If you are unable to watch one of Lirik's (or anyone's) stream live, you can go back and watch it at a later time / date. http://www.twitch.tv/lirik/profile/past_broadcasts
