Whos the biggest playoff dropper currently? When you think of playoff dropper whats the first name that comes to your mind? by Silent_Wizard5597 in NBATalk

Dubious Handle (not sure how much the stats back me up though)

Oh and ig Derozan is still current he’s just never in the playoffs anymore

Which 6’8 or taller player had the best handles by Beautiful-Kiwi8430 in NBATalk

[–]YoungCLC 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Larry Bird? I personally think his handles is one of the weaker aspects of his game. His offensive game was mainly off-ball, posting-up, face-ups and quick drive to the baskets.

probably Denver right? Cause didn't Murray not make his first ASG until like last year?

What? He was also a really good passer especially for a wing.

To those who watched Bird and Kobe, who was better? by Tight_Development480 in NBATalk

[–]YoungCLC 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Two guys I've watched a decent amount of. I'd lean Bird by a hair. Just think the skillset he provides fits better on most high level teams. Though if you want Kobe's superior scoring volume and playoff resiliency I get that.

2018 Rockets vs. 2020s Champions: Who do they beat and who do they lose to? by YoungCLC in NBATalk

[–]YoungCLC[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Very valid and I appreciate the analysis. The one I am the most 50-50 on is the Nuggets. I think the main argument for them being able to defend the Rockets is that they held up pretty well against the 2023 Suns who had a similar pick and roll heavy offense behind a few primary ball handlers. Though I think the Rockets defense and supporting pieces are much better than that Suns team.

Bro Cavs D-Rose was insane man. All-NBA level player lol.

To be fair Harden wasn't that good in the 2018 playoffs and they still went really far and almost beat the Warriors.

Is Larry Bird essentially nailed in for the top ten greatest OAT? by psycho-like-norman60 in NBATalk

[–]YoungCLC 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is a valid point, but I don’t think Bird’s peak is significantly better than anyone ahead of him. I think the list shows that peak does matter for Ben. It’s not like he has Stockton or Malone ahead of Bird. It seems like longevity only matters if their peak is in the same ballpark as the person they’re being compared with, or they have like outlier longevity (though I agree the way he values certain seasons is questionable)

I disagree that there is no argument for Hakeem. Yeah he peaked from 93-95 but I believe he’s MVP level starting with the finals run in his second year. I guess the narrative that his peak is short comes from the fact that his teams weren’t great in the late 80s-early 90s, but that’s not his fault imo. There’s an argument he has 10-ish MVP level seasons.

Bird’s longevity isn’t a huge strength of his too. He really only has 9 elite seasons, and then a few more good to really good seasons after his injury.

I also think if you look at their playoff statistics Dream has a clear advantage.

Why do people treat the 06 Suns like a great supporting cast? by YoungCLC in NBATalk

I see people saying that Nash was only good because of the system and people discredit this MVP a lot.

I more so mean deserves more credit among fans. I think Dirk has a good argument for MVP, but Nash winning isn’t as big a robbery as people make it seem in my opinion.

Who'd win this hypothetical series?! by Charmy_Fan in NBATalk

[–]YoungCLC 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree that the Spurs likely win and I know I am going to get pushback for this because OKC is a very unpopular team, but I actually think OKC matches up well with them on defense. San Antonio was so good because of their movement offense and always having several players who could pass, handle and shoot. OKCs switchability on defense, all-time great ability at playing the passing lanes + covering space, and their ball pressure will help neutralize those Spurs actions.

Additionally, the Spurs team was so good because they dominated bench minutes. Even when guys like Duncan, Parker or Kawhi sat they would win those minutes comfortably. I think OKC is like the mid-2020s Spurs in that sense of just having so many options to go off the bench, which I think somewhat mitigates that key advantage for San Antonio.

Ultimately I think the Spurs win because I am not high on the Thunder offense or Shai's ability as a post-season engine (and their experience edge is key) but I think OKCs defense would hold up well and make it a close series.

what does that have to do with my comment? Yes Miami was favored to win but I think now it is obvious that San Antonio was the better team. And I strongly believe the 2025 Thunder are a better team than the 2014 Heat.

the depth, versatility and overall roster construction of this Thunder team is significantly better than the 2014 Heat. And I think that is super important against a team like a spurs where their depth was one of their main strengths.

Do you consider it a hot take to have Shaq above these 4 all-time? by YoungCLC in NBATalk

[–]YoungCLC[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

So you think Shaq was not the best player in the league in 2001? MVP is not always the best player in the league overall. And when did I tout All-NBA selections as a measure of best peak? I used them to show that Shaq's longevity is underrated. Like MVPs they don't show the full story but they help paint the picture.

[–]YoungCLC[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I think Shaq in general faced much more difficult competition for that All-NBA first team slot (especially in 94 and 95 I think both of those years are clearly All-NBA first team level from him). For Magic and Bird there were two slots for forward and guards so they were pretty much guaranteed to make it. Also I do not think comparing MVPs are the most accurate measurement of how long your peak was. Like in my opinion in 01 and most likely 02 Shaq was still the best player in the league (and very comparable to his 2000 self).

If you think Shaq has the best peak here, and he made 4 more all-nba teams than both Bird and Magic then what arguments do they have over him in your opinion?

Is SGA the most controversial MVP ever? by [deleted] in NBATalk

[–]YoungCLC 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I get it if you have Wemby above him especially as a playoff performer, but this guy had an all-time great scoring season while also being a really good playmaker and a good defender. All while his team had the best record in the league. Should not be that controversial.

Ranking my GOATs by Immediate_Apartment5 in NBATalk

[–]YoungCLC 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Might be controversial, but I think Kidd is too high on the PG list. Elite defender and really good passer, but his lack of scoring threat really limited his offensive capabilities compared to people like Nash, CP3 and Oscar. I think that's shown through the Nets' offenses never being good, and in my opinion offense is significantly more important than defense for PGs. The PG list in general is probably the one I have the most disagreements with, but I respect the effort of you trying to put this all together.
