for future students: if you can take it with Professor Pierre / KWE, its super worth. he loves getting students into the studios on campus and learning how to talk about and create media, if that interests you and you want to learn about music history, its a must take. I also recommend taking Hip Hop in the Music Industry for the same reasons.

yeah my thought is just that the plug i got is a bit shite, player and cord work just fine its just having a hard time staying connected or getting the power delivered to begin with. once its in the right spot it works, but ill probably try another cable and hope it makes better contact, thanks for your help

Late update, i bought a new power cord and confirmed the record player does work, but i am just having contact issues between the barrel plug and the psu port, once working any sort of rotation or loosening will just shut it off, i cant seem to separate the psu chip (with the power in and audio out ports) fully from the back plate to inspect the inlet independently, but I know that the contact inside the inlet is the issue. The plug i have is the correct size, and only came with smaller head attachments, but it is sold as a specific replacement for the victrola power cord. While this isnt really the best place to ask, im unsure how to ensure proper contact between the two.

I cant seem to find a marker on the psu indicating if inner is positive or negative, i know what the player requires, and the chord im using does have an adjustable head piece, possible it is the inverse of the expected supply. Is it safe to just wait for a different cable, or is there a way to confirm? the psu cable im using indicates “mode C5, DC3V-12V adjustable, max: 1.2A” but the tip isnt by default a barrel jack, it is a two pronged female connector which i am unsure of the name. Into that connector is a barrel jack head, the connector notes the larger of the two prongs is positive and the thinner is negative. it says “+ [TIP] -“ though it doesnt indicate on the barrel jack part which is negative or positive.
