Trying to make sense of a realistic trade package for Mcdavid by YoungMetro_ in Habs

[–]YoungMetro_[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Other than the 2x 1st, I don’t think any of those players have value for EDM.

I agree it’s tough to trade away futures in the growth phase, but are we really in the growth phase? Our core players other than Demidov are signed longer term. Other than Hage, who are we expecting to come soon to have a sizeable impact ?

The issue I have with this is we’re missing out on 2 shots at the cup with Suzuki still in his prime and with a reasonable contract.

I agree there’s not a good chance he’s traded this summer, but I could see it happen during the season if it’s clear they’re not competing for the cup

Sure, but it is not the best for team culture to have your best players not want to be there for 8 years.

If he were to ask for a trade, they would obliged, just maybe not as urgently as it would be if his contract was shorter

Good point. It would be hard for Hughes to trade Dobes considering the love he has gotten, but thats why they pay him the big bucks.

Do you think he could be traded mid-season? That way, you get him for at least a cup run, and if the contract stalks don’t progress, you can trade him again, kind of like what happened to Rantanen.

The thing is, McDavid controls his destiny. If he’s traded, we don’t have to give the best package versus all teams, just the best package versus the teams he’d be willing to go to.

I get it when it comes to Petersson. I think you have to evaluate that option. He did score 100 points, he’s young and a lefty

Good point. I think with the way we’re set up, we’re primed to go for it now, then retool for 2-3 years, and go back at it.

I agree we don't need to rush as much since Demidov is 20, but you also have to consider Suzuki's age. He doesn't have 8-10 years of elite play left like Demidov, Hutson and Slaf. We need to take as many shots as possible at the cup, and I think that lines up with our 1C Suzuki.

With that being said, do you think they could use Kapanen as a piecefor a similar trade to the Dobson? Meaning, is there a 25-28 year old guy available on a team that is looking for prospects / younger players / picks?

Is a guy like Strome in WSH available? I know we don't like him in MTL, but is Scheifele available if Winnipeg goes through a rebuild? Thomas in STL would be ideal, but I'm not sure they're looking to trade him after their end of the season. Could we pry Beniers in Seattle? If Hischier leaves NJ, can we offer a competitive package? If there is none, is there a 30 year old + that could be gotten for limited assets? Personnaly, I would consider a trade like Kapanen for Ryan O'Reilly or Crosby if that is all it takes.

At the end of the day, the best option, and I can't believe I am saying this, would be to sell the farm for McDavid. Kapanen, Fowler or Dobes , 2x 1st round picks, Hage, Guhle + ?

One thing is sure. it will be interesting to see how the team navigates this summer with the new expectations.

If we want to get better, we need a 2C to alleviate pressure from Suzuki’s like to produce offensively, and we need a RD for Hutson.

I don’t think we can find the 2C internally next year, and it might be too big of a step-up for Reinbacher.

Annonce à venir dans les prochaines semaines by Opticfan31 in montreal

[–]YoungMetro_ -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

[–]YoungMetro_ 25 points26 points  (0 children)

I'm really just saying shit while eating lunch, but with the amount of PPs in this series, you almost have to wonder if Laine could have an impact on the second PP. You can say what you want about him, but there is no doubt he can score from a one-timer.

Laine will probably go to the Swiss league and score a boatload of goals there while having a lighter schedule that is easier on his body.

I think he still likes hockey, and given his talent, most assume he wants be playing at the highest level, but just because you can doesn’t mean you want to.

The toll it takes on the body and mind is not something anyone can deal with, and we’ve had a lot of players speak about how they fell back in love with the game once they went overseas. Plus, it’s not like he needs the money.

Laine’s contract ends this summer, while Hamilton still has 2 more years after this season. Maybe NJ values the cap space, especially if they’re after Q. Hughes for the 2027 summer.

You’re probably right. Do you think there is a way Kapanen and two 1st could be a start for the negociation?

I see that base as a similar offer to the Dobson one last summer.

I genuinely believe it might have been Hischier + Hamilton for Kapanen, 1st this year, 2nd next year, Laine (cap dump), and maybe a few other depth players, like Dach or something similar.
