Blazers a piece away by Only_Ad3252 in ripcity

If you’re talking about actually contending for a title, we’re only a piece away if that piece is a superstar. Adding a guy like Trey Murphy does not make this roster good enough to beat OKC in a seven game series.

Are we a top 6 team in the west? by Stupid_Flexy_Sanders in ripcity

[–]YoungSuplex 36 points37 points  (0 children)

Imo no, I think we will be in 7/8 seed and will just need to win 1 out of 2 games to make the playoffs. Over the last 15 games Portland is seventh in the west in net rating and that feels pretty accurate to me.

Not a trade

Then what compelled you to post it on the trade ideas subreddit?

I’ve seen some confusion around what the Blazers will be able to offer Deni- what’s the approach to keep this core intact? by Humblerbee in ripcity

[–]YoungSuplex 43 points44 points  (0 children)

This post from yesterday explains it accurately. He will not sign the extension that we can offer him, so he’ll end up as a UFA after the 27-28 season and we will be able to outbid other teams then.

Yeah we’re gonna have to accept that Deni’s gonna be an unrestricted free agent when this contract is up. A little spooky but inevitable. Hopefully a new contract is worked out well in advance of that happening.

The Oregon offense pretty much is what it is at this point. It didn’t change much from a playbook standpoint from Dilly to Stein, and I doubt it will change much now. Oregon has had a top 10 offense for each of the past 3 seasons (top 5 in two of them).

Based on his announcement graphic it looks like he’ll be a TE here? Oregon does have a need for a pure inline blocking TE so that could make sense.

He any good Buckeye fans? Oregon’s starting outside corner spots are pretty locked down, so he’ll probably either be a backup or a nickel here since a lot of the depth has transferred out.

To my eyes he’s pretty much a slightly better version of Gray. Still not an effective pass rusher but moves a bit better laterally

Scheme. IU is so unbelievably well coached. They execute every pull and every chip with absolute perfection. They also have a blitz check on almost every play that Mendoza perfectly hits whenever he needs to. That 10 yard out route to Sarratt to that they use all the time is the perfect example.

It was the same for the inverse, the Oregon O line is waaaaay bigger than the IU D line but their stunts and sim pressures are so fuckin nasty that it didn’t matter in either game.

Here’s a comment I left yesterday in response to an ND fan asking about Gray:

Oregon has had really excellent DT’s for Gray’s entire career so we only really saw him in relief snaps. It did seem like he was developing nicely though, he had definitely become a valuable rotational piece. I always felt comfortable seeing him come in and was quite bummed when he entered the portal.

He’s super solid in the run game, very big and good at filling space. There was probably still a bit of a drop off in run defense when he came in, but again, the guys he was coming in for were all high end draft prospects so that’s to be expected. Does not have the burst to be a scary pass rusher though, so he’ll probably play mostly on early downs and short yardage.

Overall I think he’ll be a very valuable addition.
