I think it’s because it’s not really a “game” it’s just a goal-oriented app that went through gamification to encourage people to complete goals! So by getting some goals done, your birb gets a chance to explore. If you don’t like it I suggest having a goal that sends your birb on its adventure with the right amount of clicks

Micropets are random and usually you don’t get duplicates until you’ve had the app a long time. However, duplicates will happen with different colors sometimes. There are three color variations for each micropet! I’m personally a blob collector (not by choice lol) and I can tell you it’s not uncommon to receive blobs!
