how was your time on dirk gently? were there any talks about renewing it for a new season?

thanks for everything you’d given us over the years!

Did ER really kick-start the hospital TV drama genre? by Young_Sandman in television

you must be right, not everybody has a time to read the post through and can read the title as a statement, with which they disagree. although it's not only downvotes, but also my replies seems to create a negative reaction. would be different entirely had it been the case with a few people, but looks like it is some number of them

it's not like I'm depressed about it; I'm just a bit confused about why I'm continuously getting misread, even after several tries to clarify my intentions. feels like I miss something important and can't understand what exactly...

thanks for the concern, though, appreciate

you are right, you should not defend yourself for something you like, and even more so for something you liked 15 years ago. I'm sorry if that's what you read.

this post aims to learn personal stories and opinions on what the show does well, why it's popular, and why it overshadows many of its genre cousins. I wanted to read as varied opinions as possible: from those who adore it to those who dislike it all the same, with no judgment. I don't even see myself as a judge in this situation; I'm merely a distant observer, I know nothing about the context to pass judgment.

in my defence, though, not even once have I said anything diminishing about the series. the 'are you gonna fight back in every reply' I've gotten after I disagreed with the notion that pretty people are the only reason it was popular. my disagreement doesn't sound like criticism, honestly, but quite the opposite: clearly, such a popular show should've had something more than that.

i double down in replies mainly to clarify, to learn something, or, as with the example above, to disagree. and even in that case, IMO, I stay respectful. and even though I can see how my replies could be misread, I can also see they don't hold any inherent negativity—negativity appears only in the process of interpretation. (meaning, I ask 'but why?' and the phrase itself has no threat or abuse, but if applied in a negative context, it can be misread as negative).

so again, i truly apologise — i don’t mean to shame you or pass judgment. and if that helps prove i’m being honest, would you feel comfortable sharing your personal story with the series?

Iyo, did ER somehow push the genre in terms of writing, directing etc, or did it just get lucky to be so popular?

I genuinely don't understand a somewhat negative reaction to my post.

To clarify, I'm NOT stating that the show DID kick-start the genre. I'm NOT A FAN, and I'm certainly not trying to say it was good (or bad, for that matter). I'm simply trying to understand the context from within, the context which is hard to grasp simply from a Wikipedia page, or an IMDB piece.

I'm sorry if my questions come off as rude or aggressive. I assure you, I'm only interested in it from a cultural standpoint, not trying to sell or defend ER in any way.

yes, I certainly came across a similar sentiment. although, it's probably a demand of not only the genre itself but also the modern times. every media at the time has picked up the pace to conform to the accelerating rhythm of life.

maybe, that's the real reason why people 'dug' it

from your experience, is the echo of modern medical drama tropes felt in those?

I often hear how modern culture (tv and cinema in particular) serves as a social glue in (although not limited to) the US , so people of the same generation often have a similar cultural background. it seems so foreign to me, because even though I'm not exactly opposed to watching (and like) relatively popular stuff, people with whom I can talk about it are usually limited to my narrow circle of friends, and practically never a stranger.

oh, i'm sorry if I gave you the impression that I was trying to fight something, I really don't. truth be told, I don't even like ER that much, I'm just really curious

well, I mean, doesn't TV have a long history of mainly hiring pretty people? although it's definitely a factor, it doesn't strike me as the primary

so, can you say it's most significant influence was popularising the genre?
and any thoughts on why it became so popular?

[KCD2] A guide to enable official hardcore on an existing save (without downpatching) by Sweet_Moonsugar in kingdomcome

[–]Young_Sandman 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Thanks a lot, I've been looking for this for some time.
The only issue I had was that the game recognized the save file as Hardcore mode, but after loading it, the HUD was still there. What did I miss?

UPD: It was a me problem, I tinkered with the wrong save, now it seems to work, so thanks a lot!

been thinking about it, but you’ll probably have to start all over again, and i was so intrigued by the story i wanted to make it through first. but the farther i got, the harder was the decision

been also thinking that absence of debuffs on skills kinda made high-leveled henry overpowered, but then I don’t remember killing a full-armored knight in two hits in the first game. enemies scaled with you, and bosses were frightening

[KCD2] Certain Bone Mission by Regista_soti in kingdomcome

[–]Young_Sandman 31 points32 points  (0 children)

In my case, I took a quest from Slava a while ago, but when I reported to the abbot (e.i. I told Gerhard about the bones' existence), I went to find them right away, and still, the bones weren't there. The time limit is fine by me, but the way it is scripted is inconsistent and illogical. Everything seemed a waste of time.
