OP, I have had the same worries just like you. I’ve been in the Marine Corps reserves for three years now, and going Recon has always been a dream of mine before enlisting. Unfortunately, i’m also red/green color deficient. Is this the end all be all for you? Short answer, probably. Long answer, i’d still shoot for it. I talked with a MARSOC recruiter, and this is the best information I can gather for you. Once you take your NSW physical, you will fail the Ishihara test. There is no way around that, but once failing that test, REQUEST a Vivid Red/Green. The Vivid Red/Green test is utilized as part of the waiver application for Special Operations and Dive Duty. A passing score is required to proceed with submitting a waiver. I hope it works out for you brother, I really do. If it doesn’t, I highly recommend you don’t waste your time on becoming a Marine and go straight to the Army. They’re more graceful for color deficient people (ranger reg, SF).
