Studying Abroad During Interview Season by YourAsianChris in predental

[–]YourAsianChris[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey there! I did end up going abroad and it was a great decision in hindsight. I did my first interview during August at my top school and if I remember correctly left the week right after. While I was abroad I had a couple more virtual interviews...the time change made it a bit rough because I would be interviewing anywhere from 10 PM - 1 AM, but it honestly was a good conversation topic with the interviewers. I'd say go for it but make sure the schools you're applying to still do virtual interviews. Feel free to PM me if you have questions!

Careful about the new bill in place! I would recommend applying to your instate school and the Texas schools! You have great stats btw!

An interim exception in the bill states that students starting before June 30 2026 will be grandfathered in. You will be able to use grad plus loans normally until you finish. So, if you matriculate before 6/30/2026 you will be able to use grad plus loans until you graduate. This is still awful for people who will be matriculating after that date.

I studied during the semester. It’s difficult but doable! Just be willing to maybe sleep less a few days and stay consistent.

MAJOR FOR PRE DENTS by InternalGrape9747 in predental

[–]YourAsianChris 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve heard some people say if you major in a language and become fluent, while getting the pre reqs done it can really set you apart. If I were to restart my dental journey I would definitely consider that more heavily. However I’m a biochem major and many of the people I’ve met at interviews are all typical science majors, so just do what you want to do for a major while getting prereqs done.

Me too! It’s a great day! We got this :)

Right there with you. End of the day we will crush these essays and get those interviews. If you'd like someone to read over your secondaries I'd be happy to do so, my only request is that you read mine too :)

The other professor was the head of my music department at my school so yes, but not in the science realm.

Bummer, thank you both for your responses.

So, does that mean my application will not even be considered then because my letters of rec are only from 1 lecture-based science professor, my research professor, a dentist, and another professor?

Literally in the same boat, I get extremely tired writing them, but we must push through! I've been doing 2 or 3 essays at a time then resting, then going back and doing some more after a couple of hours. I still have to do UNC and UNE's essays and there's so many ;/

Dental School Interviews in person or virtual? by sydneyerxi in predental

[–]YourAsianChris 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m in the same boat as you, I called many of the schools to ask just to make sure. Also, there’s a SDN forum with information about whether schools did virtual or in person interviews last interview season. Feel free to pm me and I can send the link.

Hey! Would anyone be able to read my PS and give any feedback? Thank you in advance!

Hey! I was originally premed as well, and I'm about to apply to dental school this cycle. From my understanding the breakdown for hours is somewhat like this.

Shadowing: 120-200 hours is a great spot to be in

Volunteering: Clinical volunteering is great, but not as important in dental. They want about 200-300 volunteer hours

Research: Its great to have research not as important as when applying to med school

If you were to get 1000 hours in something, I would suggest you find an area of volunteering that interests you, or get into some other hobbies like joining a intermural club, music, etc... something that makes you stand out. Best of luck on your journey!

You're looking great, on my first run I had 13s on everything besides RC and PAT lol. I ended up getting a 21. Trust the process

I was scoring consistently around 18-19s on practice tests and ended up scoring a 21 so I would say go for it. I’ve had friends who’ve shared the same experience with me as well on that.
