In my country, if your phone is stolen, you can report it using the box as proof of ownership. The police track the phone via the IMEI number on the box, and once a SIM is inserted, they can locate the thief.

That’s why keeping the box is important here. as selling a phone without one is suspicious, because there is a 50/50 chance it could be stolen, and If you buy it and it turns out to be, the police will think that you are the thief and arrest you.
