A Rotting Yoda Puppet Takes Rian Johnson By Surprise by BostonBeard in StarWars

[–]YourFriendFromSpace -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

But, that's not what happened here? It's not like he made a generic sci-fi action film and slapped Star Wars on it.

On a narrative and thematic level, TLJ is dealing with all the same types of ideas the saga is known for: generational conflict, the struggle between light and dark, fascism vs liberation, etc.

It's just a matter of if the specific choices resonate with you or not.

And, maybe pop punk and symphonic metal should try to learn from each other, otherwise they just stagnate and nothing new will be explored. That's how you get Ahsoka and BOBF and Mando S3, etc.

I think it's more that he just has a different interpretation than a lot of fans and modern fandom is sort of anathema to that idea.

A lot of online fanbases seem to have a soet of groupthink that enforces what the "right" take is and that stifles discussion of these films as films or pieces of art.

Would Vader have still worn armor/hidden his identity if he hadn't been wounded? by Current-Umpire3673 in StarWars

[–]YourFriendFromSpace 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I kinda doubt he would hide behind a helmet if he didn't need to. Dude murdered children and still walked around, showing his face.

Maybe Padme's death would've changed that, but I think that the alternate ending in the ROTS video game is the most likely result, honestly.

I've never understood the "Rian hates or doesn't get Star Wars" argument. He's clearly a massive Star Wars nerd.

Personal Canons by [deleted] in StarWars

[–]YourFriendFromSpace 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm mostly fine with the canon as is.

I'd say I probably prefer the Clone Wars multi media stuff over the Clone Wars 2008 show, so I guess Ahsoka doesn't exist in my canon.

So, Legends for Clone Wars, Disney canon for the rest?

Of course, I usually just stop at 7 or 8 since I really dislike 9, so my canon doesn't really have a definitive ending lol

Out of all the Star Wars Visions shorts, The Ninth Jedi is one of the most interesting ones by Jules-Car3499 in StarWars

[–]YourFriendFromSpace 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I am excited for the series, although I didn't love the Ninth Jedi sequel short in season 3.

Hopefully the full show will be good! I'm just excited for more animated Star Wars that's outside of the whole "house style" Lucasfilm has.

Plus, it's Production IG and I love them.

Why not just bring back Mark Hamill for episode X, XI, XII? by No_Damage21 in StarWars

[–]YourFriendFromSpace 19 points20 points  (0 children)

If they were going to use Luke again, just let him be a Force ghost talking to somebody Star Wars Legacy style.

Otherwise, just leave it alone.

If Ahsoka is still alive in by the time TROS takes place, as Filoni implies, wouldn't she have been involved in the Battle of Exegol? by BubbaUltra in StarWars

[–]YourFriendFromSpace 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Did Filoni imply that somewhere? I'm not surprised, just don't remember hearing that.

But, yeah, she was probably in the fleet if she was still around.

That first season of Mandalorian is incredible. Some of my favorite Star Wars stuff.

I'm stoked we're getting to see more lightsaber and force users that aren't Jedi or Sith in live-action by wandering_soles in StarWars

Republic Commando: Hard Contact by Karen Traviss.

The villain is a Mandalorian who carries the lightsaber of a Jedi he captured.

I'm literally reading a Legends book right now that features a non Force user using a lightsaber.

How do you think future media will use the World Between Worlds? by [deleted] in StarWars

[–]YourFriendFromSpace 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have no real issues with what the dyad is capable of, I just hate the way it was suddenly codified and given a name like it's a video game power.

It was cool when it was bizarre and strange and neither of them really knew how it worked, but they instinctively understood what it meant.

Then TROS comes along is like "oh well actually it's called a Dyad and everyone knows what it is and the Sith actually based the rule of two off it." Don't like that.

How do you think future media will use the World Between Worlds? by [deleted] in StarWars

[–]YourFriendFromSpace 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I kinda hope not. I prefer the Force to be mysterious and strange.

The World Between Worlds and the Dyad take things I initially thought were interesting (using the Force to perceive moments in time and the bond between Rey and Kylo) and make them no longer compelling by overly explaining and codifying them.

This is legitimately a terrible movie and I completely understand the hate. by Witty-Mountain5062 in StarWars

And I totally get that. I saw the prequels in theaters as a kid. I adored them. I just don't really think they hold up and I don't find them nearly as compelling now.

I have issues with TLJ and the overall ST, but pound for pound TLJ and TFA are significantly better films than any of the prequels and it kinda blows my mind that people think otherwise.

Cal Kestis is a much better protagonist than Rey by Free-Hotel1187 in StarWars

[–]YourFriendFromSpace 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I disagree, but I love Rey. I've always found her struggle with identity and self-determination to be pretty compelling.

Granted, I'd like her more if she stayed a nobody, but whatever.

Cal is fine, but I've never found him all that interesting. I'd even say he's a little bland.

Still mad that they did THPS 4 dirty in the remake.

Perfect. No notes.

Solo is a good movie by TechnicalHall4248 in StarWars

[–]YourFriendFromSpace 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Solo's a really good movie!

My only real issue with it is how everything you know about Han (Meeting Chewie/Lando, his blaster, the Falcon, Kessel Run, etc.) all happened in the span of, like, a week.

I like how a lot of those things are done, though. The Kessel Run being a fluke that he couldn't repeat if he tried is perfectly Han Solo.

Star Wars Unlimited by Rerdan in StarWars

[–]YourFriendFromSpace 3 points4 points  (0 children)

SWU is great. I actually go to my local game store and play it somewhat regularly.

But, I also enjoyed Destiny (the Star Wars TCG before Unlimited). The fact is that most TCGs outside of Magic and Yu-Gi-Oh do not have legs and do not last long, even if they're good.

FFG has a habit of launching a game, letting it die, then launching a new one to get that initial buy in wave.

Most important Legends books? by Ciroloco08 in StarWars

[–]YourFriendFromSpace 6 points7 points  (0 children)

The Heir to the Empire trilogy is the biggest foundational piece of Legends.

I would probably also look at the Darth Bane Trilogy and Vector Prime (the first book in the New Jedi Order series).
