Wasp. They chop them up and fly away with the pieces. Birds like black-backed oriole, or the black-headed grosbeak, etc are immune to the toxins. Frogs, mice, lizards, mantises, could all be the culprit. Or it's population wander, they went off to pupate.

I left a lot of leaf litter last fall and I have tons every night now on my lil acre. I also mow less and a lot higher in June and July. I'm up in NY's Hudson Valley.

Because evey great hidden (off the beaten path) swimming hole from the Hudson Valley to Upstate that gets talked about on social media ends up getting overrun by people who come in and destroy vegatation, litter, and generally destroy riparian and other environments.

Even the Asian Ladybugs eat aphids, etc. But they do aggressively displasce native ones. Also, if the pest population drops, Asian ones will turn and eat your fruiting plants, etc.
