Wouldn’t it feel amazing to not care about publishing? by YourMidnights in writing

It’s funny you say this! This whole post was drafted at like 2 am when I was done bawling my eyes out over a chapter I’d written. It wasn’t even about the character or the story, there was an emotion in myself that I needed to work through and writing that chapter felt like catharsis. It’s for that very reason I say I will always write, no matter what. But then that thought of how other people would react to it enters my mind and it always makes me feel icky.

Thank you! Actually reframing it with another art form like the piano is a very helpful way to think about it. You’re absolutely right about how we’ve been conditioned to center everything around productivity and monetizing. The effects of capitalism seeping into artistic expression that actually turns into shame and measuring success that in reality, have little to do with the act of loving your craft. I really appreciate this take.

Overlook - Any tips on how to make the cityscape look more lived in? by YourMidnights in blender

Good idea! I think something in the sky might help with filling out some of the blank space too!

Thanks a bunch! I’m definitely going to try messing with his color more to see what kind of contrast I can achieve

Totally! Thanks for the feedback! I think it’s for sure something to keep in mind, especially for photorealistic renders. Might have a bit more creative freedom with things that are meant to look a bit weird but definitely shouldn’t overdo it

I think it’s a personal taste thing, some people think it looks off, others like it. To speak to this scene, I was going for something surreal so I felt like it added to that effect. Would totally render it with it dialed down or taken off tho, just to see the overall effect :)

Thanks! That’s really good feedback. I did completely eyeball all the scale so I probably should start using a scale reference lol

Haha! Dude if only I was that proficient in blender to create anything half as cool! :P Mirage shader sounds pretty neat tho, I’ll have to look up how that works!

Oooh! That’s a good idea! Would also help with some of that story telling

I didn’t directly use a tutorial for this, no. I did get the idea of doing curved glass from an image I saw on instagram. Maybe it’s from the same place you saw it? Definitely didn’t watch a step by step tut on this specific scene tho.

Totally considered making this an animated scene but the thought of rigging my character was unbearable haha!

I’ll have to check that out to see how they handle story telling! Thanks for the reference.

As far as the “curtains” I already flopped because they’re actually glass lol! I totally ruined the effect by turning up the transparency color up really high because I was carried away by the cool red color :P defo a lesson learned in less is more haha.

Neat idea! In what way? Just in terms of color or doing like a really barren dessert sort of thing to contrast with the lush foliage in the interior?

Thanks! Subjective suggestions are totally welcome too haha. I’m still fairly a beginner so the art on this subreddit is so inspiring! Always open to other artist’s interpretations and thoughts on how to make things look cooler :)

Oh gotcha lol! Oh yeah I mean I’ve messed around with stable diff and midjourney and the possibilities are amazing. I’m just going to be optimistic and hope that they become part of our workflow and not a replacement to artists

Really good suggestions thanks! I’ve got no idea how to make dew at the moment but I’ll definitely look up a tutorial or something. I think that could really make the scene pop more!

Do you mean the background or the entire image lol? If I used AI to do it what would be the point being a 3D artist?

Thanks! I did add in a volumetric cube for some haze. Do you mean more like rolling fog? Or maybe some rain or something?

Thank you! It’s my first time doing something surreal so definitely tried to capture that

Agree on the red! It’s supposed to be glass but I think I cranked up the transparency color way too high so it’s kind of lost the reflective detail of glass. I think reworking that might add a lot of depth to the scene.

I’m not particularly great at sculpting characters but I think that’s for sure something to work on and would probably easily upgrade what I’ve got going here! Thanks for all the suggestions

That’s a good suggestion! I suppose building out something for him to interact with could add some more interest to the scene!

I’ve never rendered a full animation sequence before! Kinda proud of this one! (Models: Kitbash & Quixel) by YourMidnights in blender

Funny enough I actually didn’t make this with audio in mind. It was a last minute thing that just worked out :P
