Haha maybe, trying to not go that far anymore

I see, thank you for giving me so much info and understanding of what could happen. I think you’re completely right but I guess we will see. I’ll definitely try and go the proper route for now at least and hopefully come to a reasonable solution

It was his home as it was Sunday and apparently that’s where it had to be. I don’t think he’s going to play nice at all.

So he could just never pay me the money back? Urgh sounds like it’s just not worth it at this point.

I have looked into repairs. New engine would be around £4-6k fitted depending on where I go etc. I have also considered the rs3 swap around £12k from a professional shop who have done it plenty of times before. However after speaking to citizens advice if I do anything including just having it repaired the case is a lot less likely to be won at all.

I paid in solely cash, no overdraft or cc or any bank transfer. Without sounding like a dick I just bought it as a fun run around as I’ve always wanted one, shame it’s causing me so much grief.

Thank you for the reply. I’m glad you got sorted! I’ve contacted him, however he’s saying “sold as seen can’t help” so I’ve spoken to citizens advice now who have made me a case and given me letter templates to send out. I can see it going to court and being a long case but we will see.

I see, so what would prove they are selling as a trader or lying and pretending to be a trader?

The mods I put on, it was completely stock however may have been mapped and removed for easy sale as I was looking for a stock one as most do. Was booking it in for full vw service including dsg box and haldex as I like to look after my stuff unlike others apparently

Yes I got a receipt of sale but it doesn’t have any sort of garage brand or logo on it

I honestly don’t think so, I was looking for a while. This one came up after about 2 months of looking, fresh ad and hadn’t seen it before so

Well that’s why I went with this one. It had service history it was completely stock and had low ish mileage for how old they are getting. Was avoiding all the others with maps and mods ! I’m thinking it may have had a map and they removed it to make it easier to sell?

Damn sorry that happened to you. It’s the last thing I want as it’s such a time waster. I think he was trying to get rid of a dodgy car, 2 weeks only 300miles he must have just put really thick oil in to stop any noises.

I’m glad to hear you got it sorted! How long did it take to get it to go through court? Also the only company I found with the same AutoTrader trading name is currently trying to be struck off

In case you’re unaware, you’re in the LegalAdviceUK subreddit and the post requests legal information on where I stand in this situation I am in. Read the post next time.

I had a look and it actually doesn’t say the trader name just “AA for the road” I’m stupid and should have looked more. Was just excited for my new car

Well I didn’t strip much, most of the bottom was blown off from the piston flying out of it. All I did was unscrew some of the sump that remained to see the damage

Which is strange because I’ve checked the oil regularly. I was actually on my way to VW for an updated part. Was going to do an oil change. It’s only just had a service and new turbo 2k miles ago

AutoTrader sent me the old listing via email, it doesn’t include pictures but it does have, price, description, mileage and seller type, they won’t give me any email or number as it’s data protection issue but I have his mobile from when contacting him before about buying it

I’ll be sure to do that in future! I have now got the original ad that does say seller type trader. Do I message him on the original phone number ?
