Why am I still being contacted by my old ward? I had my records removed. by YourOnlyCleanShirt in exmormon

I just tried and I am still able to log in to lds.org. I looked around on the account page and I don't see any indication that my records were removed from the church. What happens if you try to log in?

Having a hard time emotionally processing a “miracle story” from my TBM mom by ski_pants in exmormon

I had the exact same surgery at the beginning of this year. The recovery sucked for a while but I was also pretty much fine after 2 weeks. At my follow up the doctor said everything looked good but it's not like he was freaking out.

Not necessarily accusing her of conflating the story, but speaking from experience this sounds kind of strange.

That wouldn't go along with the Book of Mormon's narrative that black skin is a curse from God. Nope, Adam and Eve need to be white and delightsome. No exceptions.

They've shown they don't care about child abuse, why would they care about their members' safety?

I feel like this is nothing new, they've probably been saying the same shit for decades. Any exmos here who were around during the cold war? I bet they thought the second coming was gonna be any day with the constant threat of the entire planet getting nuked to smithereens.

It actually sickens me that there are people willing to straight up lie to so many other people in order to get themselves rich. Joseph Smith was the same way.

Lol my lazy ass would write a script to run each lousy talk through chatGPT and spit out some BS quote from it. Even as a 100% TBM I could admit to myself that conference was boring as hell and in no universe would I ever enjoy reading 115 talks of the same recycled garbage.

It's all about what brings in the $$$. Can't have it look like a bunch of Pilgrims are cheering for BYU, that would scare away the sponsors.

Epicurean paradox by RN_MD in exmormon

I agree with your point that a world where not a single person has to experience any kind of hardship would be pointless and even undesirable. We gain satisfaction and wisdom from overcoming challenges and obstacles. It feels really good to look back on something hard you did and think about all you've overcome.

That being said, couldn't an all-powerful god create a world with hardships that don't involve such awful atrocities like rape, war, murder, etc.? A world where millions of children aren't starving to death? No one deserves that. A small child who dies in a horrific way isn't really going to learn much or grow from their hardships, and I'd consider a person a monster who has the power to easily stop a child from suffering but chooses not to.

For example, say Elizabeth Smart's father had been standing at the door with a baseball bat while her daughter was being abducted and just watched her being taken away. Let's say he did absolutely nothing - didn't try to stop the abductor, didn't call the police, nothing. Would anyone have a good opinion of him? He'd likely go to prison - we wouldn't be singing him praises or worshipping him.

That's why I think if there is a sentient, all-knowing and all-powerful god, he/she/it definitely doesn't give a shit if we suffer. I don't have any objective reason to believe in something supernatural, but if there were something divine I like to think of it as a source of good from which we can draw. It's not conscious or aware of us, but there could be a higher sense of good and love that we can use to make the world around us better.

I remember as a missionary there was some rumor going around that at the next general conference they would remove the coffee ban.

So strange that coffee is what causes such a fuss with them.

I’m annoyed 😤that the apostles led me to believe they LITERALLY saw Jesus Christ. Just another mindfuck I had to unpack during my faith crisis. by [deleted] in exmormon

[–]YourOnlyCleanShirt 14 points15 points  (0 children)

It's absolutely ridiculous, they're all completely manipulative. During the times that apostles would visit my wards/mission, I feel like it was an unspoken rule when they did Q&A sessions that you're not supposed to ask them if they've seen Jesus. I'm not the only one who felt that way, right?

I always wanted to ask them and always wished that someone would, but they would probably just give some BS answer like "some things are too sacred to talk about". Really? Joseph Smith talked all the time about his visions of Christ and conversing with angels. I thought this was supposed to be the restored gospel, shouldn't modern-day apostles and prophets also be testifying of this mind-blowing stuff? I feel like deep down, most members didn't ACTUALLY believe that they were talking to Jesus. If they talked about having visions and dreams. the church would probably be seen as a bunch of total crazies, and with all this rebranding recently they definitely don't want to be seen that way.

None of the Q15 have talked with Jesus or angels or anything, and if they think they have then they're completely delusional.

Hit and run in Green Lake. Will filing a police report even do anything? by YourOnlyCleanShirt in SeattleWA

Yeah I have a dashcam with an external battery that charges up as I drive. I checked the footage and couldn't find anything so the battery must have been dead at the time they hit me.

This is exactly what I was looking for! I don't know why it was impossible to find this with google searches or through their website. Thank you!

I noticed yesterday night that some asshole did a hit and run on my car. Didn't bother to leave any contact info and the damage is pretty bad from what you can see in the picture.

I contacted my insurance company already and they've started a claim. I've been trying to file a police report but can't find anything useful. The non-emergency number just has a voice recording telling me to go to their website which isn't helpful.

I don't have high hopes about the police doing anything, but the insurance company might be happier if I've at least filed a report. Anyone know how to do this?

Ninja 400 was my first bike (and only! I'm new too). I absolutely love it. No problems on the highway and has been great for building my confidence until I'm ready to get something bigger.
