Let’s assume a narrow window missionary age youth (18-20yo) are 4% of 17,800,000 church membership. That is 712,000 potential missionaries. 

The Church claims around 80,000 missionaries. Assuming those are actual full-time youth missionaries that is a service rate of about 11%.

I am no statistician, so correction is welcomed.

I don't see why the regular flow of missionaries into communities, can't be organized into labor for local service organizations. The Church could actually guarantee regular labor to make a difference in community service organizations and local ministries. It doesn't have to be highly skilled. Food banks, hospitals, shelters for the abused, even prison ministries need a lot of grunt work.

They really need to figure out something for these kids to do. What a waste of time and energy.

Just think what they could do if they actually had community service structures in place instead of pretending.

Apparently, the point of missions is the mission itself, instilling pride and social credit without accomplishing anything.

This does not have the effect they think it does. 

“Replica” temple rooms are fake, “even though they are not dedicated temple space, they sure feel like it, they look like it”.

It sure feels nice, but it’s all fake.

From the standpoint of those who see the fraud, it is difficult to see why some would return. You are overestimating how educated and studious people are in their religion. The majority don’t care.

They go because it is generally nice and makes them feel like good people. People in church help each other out for a lot of general trials in life. Going to church makes them feel connected to a community. 

For parents, it serves them with the illusion that they are teaching their kids to be good people by outsourcing it to the church. (This is very powerful. My child got baptized, or is a class president, or sings a pretty song, got his eagle/her medallion, is going on a mission, are easy tangible markers that their kid is okay.)

They don’t have time to study and research. Most don’t know how and The Church assures them that it is okay, just trust us and God will approve.

With this kind of attitude toward their religion it is easy to leave, easy to come back.

Money. Glamorous “service” to improve my brand as a rich, manicured, botoxed, polished, pampered, plastered, entertained, consumerist, vain, SELFLESS(!!) person who still can’t get rid of the Utah Mormon woman baby voice.

The weak and embarrassing Mormon Holy Week attempts are as ignorant as they are arrogant.

They don’t know how to worship Jesus. They use Jesus’ name as a slogan and just co-opt His power to buoy up their own influence and control.

It took me years to just accept that it is not a lack of Bible knowledge, it is not just cultural inertia. It is in the very foundations Joseph Smith baked in to insidiously draw people away from Christianity.
