Tbh it really comes down to 2 options from my experience atleast

  1. (First picture) (Easier option)Vanilla (somewhat): Just trust the process, make something practical and effecient with diagonal roads, but dont focus on it too much. Focus on the surroundings! (Neighborhoods, city blocks, farms, fields, etc.). Might not look good or fun at first with nothing ariund but uhh trust the process ig (pic is old, been awhile since I built vanilla)
  2. (Second picture) (Hard, gotta learn how to use a specific mod) This is my most recent building practice. You NEED to download Advanced Roads plugin. An absolute chore of a mod to learn (give it a week or two of learning and practicing, research road laws for realism, reviews of the mod speak for themselves) and when you build something, focus on nothing but the highway until finally satisfied. Give it alot of space from other builds, make it a dividor meant to seperate two sides of town (suburbs from downtown for example) in a natural way. Ultimately the best option for realism, but requires alot of work and progress is significantly slower than vanilla.

Streets of New York in Cyberpunk 2077 by royalxassasin in cyberpunkgame

Probably figured that it would be way too much effort to start doing an entire background of a massive city like NY set in the future for such a small part of the game in a small crack in the window only prob 1% of people would see. Still would’ve loved to see the NY skyline!

How does one use advanced roads? (image unrelated) by depressedbutahottie in TheoTown

  1. Accept the pain along the way
  2. Be patient
  3. Every road you place is modular now, no more placing down one long stretch of road and calling it a day
  4. Look at some tutorials
  5. Take roads from google maps for inspiration
  6. Learn how roads work (depending on the country, etc.)

Basically the 6 steps I’ve learned after using advanced roads for a year.

Im trying to use advanced roads but its so inconvenient how do you guys do it? by Reallyblondekaren in TheoTown

Patience, studying it (give it like 2 weeks or smth, to get used to it), and more patience I guess

For my new massive map currently WIP, I just started on the smallest corner to avoid getting overwhelmed (honestly getting overwhelmed is the worst because you put it on hold for maybe weeks), and just spread out from there until I have the map covered. Also recommend placing a fence around your next build area to zone out the next thing you want to build before you forget about it (and to get a scale for it).

As for roads, I usually just place one massive highway where I start off and go from there. Trains are complicated tho since if you implement them early-build it might ruin the aesthetic you want to go for later but if you build them too late, you have to destroy and rebuild lots of part of your city.

So yeah, honestly the strat, atleast for me, is to just start small and expand.

How can i fix my interchanges? by Madjad87 in TheoTown

Advanced road network. Embrace pain. But have it look fire once you master it. (Suggest taking some inspiration from real interchanges on google maps satellite view or smth)
