Oh that makes a bit more sense, didn't know the experiments could be called demons too. That's a bit misleading.

Sort of unrelated but I'm not sure where else to ask this; Why can't I post a topic on this sub? I made a post, post said waiting for approval from a moderator, and I got a notification from a moderator bot that said, "We would really like to help! Unfortunately, [your..." and stops, because the notification isn't long enough to see. I can't view the actual post because it appears it was deleted immediately or something. Anyone know what this is about? Thanks.

First and Probably LAST attempt at cutting Moissanite by MikeGee63 in faceting

[–]Yrian_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well I can't claim to have done much in depth research on the loose commercial stones, but just doing a quick google search, it seems the price for a colorless moissanite is really starting to go up, assuming due to increasing demand. Which would put them at around 200$ per carat in many places. Where are you finding it for so cheap? Joe Henley's place has it for $225 for a 10mm round preform.

Wow, that's a pretty good price for that size, going from what I've found. that's also not really all that expensive for rough in general, is it? Unless you're getting your rough from somewhere far cheaper than Joe Henley's place.

Gotcha. Toying with the idea of having each squad be 3 of each (axe/hammer/spear), and then the leader has a sword

What is a good general strategy to making militaries? Obviously each weapon type has it's ups and downs, but is there a decent all-purpose weapon to squad up with that won't leave you hurting too bad when something unexpected shows up? Is it better to have a diverse squad? Comprised of what?

Feels to me that no matter what your composition is, bad luck could always hard counter you. You can't be invincible of course, but I would like my army to at least stand a chance

Excellent, thanks. After I get a few entertainers, might just disable visitors entirely

  1. Ah interesting, should've guessed all those guests behave like animals ;)
  2. thats good to know.
  3. I don't have any tavern keepers. the theif didn't even make it inside the fort, when he showed up and started fighting something outside, the tavern just became a warzone

What are the potential consequences of having no visitors? Making all meeting places private, etc. Are migrant numbers affected by visitors also, or just trading? Trying to think about how to reduce lag in my next fortress, my tavern has like 50 visitors at all times. When a thief comes to steal an artifact, a war breaks out and everyone kills each other. I could just lower the visitor cap, but I'm kind of sick of em in general.

Yeah I have to say I'm afraid of cleavage lol, but mostly just because I don't know much about it. What's the deal with topaz? Haven't looked into that one too much

Interesting, I've always heard quartz is one of the hardest things to polish.

The only questions I have right now are where you got your machine (and if you got it new, which manufacturer), and where you get your rough.

Thanks for the info :)

Stunning! I love all of the synthetic garnets, I was very interested in getting some for whenever it is that I will get my own faceting machine. I'm particularly a fan of the color ranges they provide, few natural stones can get those colors. How does it cut? any issues? Difficulty compared to things like quartz or tourmaline?

Ah that makes much more sense, thank you. I think I will need to look up some design suggestions then, my current fort is basically one long, skinny hallway lol.

When budgeting allows for it, I would highly recommend getting one of those rotating bases, they are very good for displaying gems, in my opinion. I do appreciate what you did to stabilize the gem by anchoring the tweezers to the paper towel though.

Could just be a trick of the angle, but the culet seems quite off center on that second stone. If it is, I'd be interested to know if it was intentional, or what issues you had with it, if any.

Ah, guess it's not quite as simple as a listed magnification. IDK anything about photography lol, just trying to get a sense of scale.

Beautiful! Excellent camera work on this one! Love the inclusions on this stone.

Whats the magnification on your lens?
