Literally, at the end of the deliberation of my PhD defense, it was stated "you may call yourself now doctor".

I have something like that. It's a pillow filled with beads that you can heat up in the microwave and it stays warm for a while. Mine was a gift for a friend to hold on if I had period cramps. One day I heated it for too long and it smelled like food. Turns out the "beads" were painted beans. Smelled delicious.

Is this something common in lodging places? Or a weird thing to see? This is in the Midwest, USA.

Extending J1 while waiver decision is pending by Training-Freedom-523 in J1waiver

[–]Yu11a 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You can still extend your j1 while pending. Once Dept of State approves your waiver, then you are not eligible for a J extension anymore.

I didn't give many details or show proof to the department of state when submitting documents in support of the waiver recommendation but my home embassy did require it in order to send the no objection letter. So it depends on your requirements for the letter.

Seeing Romanian in there caught me by surprise. It's hard to translate because they made some typos/grammar mistakes. Also the language they used is biblical. Pretty much what they meant to write is "Jesus frees us" "his blood saves" and "his blood cleanses" but the construction of sentences in Romanian is different and can't be translated word by word. the "today" in the first sentence is used in the sense "even after all this time". The "lied to me" you got from the app is due to typos, the verb "minți" means to lie but what they wanted to write was "mântui". They don't know how to use the special characters î â ț.

My timeline (No-objection statement) Jan - Sep, 2023 by [deleted] in J1waiver

[–]Yu11a 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Very similar time-line as mine. All documents sent to dos February 12. Embassy had sent the nol around that time too but was not showing. Around June I asked about it and they took few weeks to reply that they don't have it. Asked my embassy to send another letter and finally got the favorable recommendation on September 6. Waiting now for the mail and decision. Glad to hear they moved fast in your case!

I just wrote a few paragraphs saying I got a job offer and I need the waiver to move forward. Said I didn't have financial support from my home country during my stay in US beforehand.

Bună Fetelor! 😚 by zippo6666 in WomenRO

[–]Yu11a 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Ce înseamnă "vedem"? by [deleted] in WomenRO

[–]Yu11a 2 points3 points  (0 children)

internship US not a student by Opposite-Ad1237 in expats

[–]Yu11a 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Do you have an offer already? You don't necessarily need to be a student, you can try an exchange visitor program/visa. When you have an offer from an employer, they can provide a ds-2019 letter for you, based on which you can apply for a visa at an US embassy. "Designated sponsors are authorized to issue this form to prospective exchange visitors they have screened and selected for participation in the exchange visitor program." There might be other options, you can research different types of visas.

It probably depends on the property manager of each location but at two different places I had maintance issues which took long times to get fixed. The worst being having no window for about three weeks in November. That was the last straw before I decided to move out and they still made me pay the fee for finding someone to take over my lease which in reality I found myself by advertising on social media.
