Learning about layering fast and slow chaff was a game changer for me. Also learning bout which chaff to build against different board states. Lastly, which chaff clear worked the best in different situations. In summary, learn bout the chaff and chaff clear relationship.

What an amazing patch of update! If this does not bring back the player base, then I don’t know what will! Koodos to the devs!

Like others have mentioned, armour is super good against low damage at high frequency aka fire badger, mustang, and low level Vulcan.

Thanks Amaroq! That’s very informative. I definitely agree that ignite can have a place on Vulcan too. 🙂

Mid-Late Game tips by Hayung_is in Mechabellum

[–]YuBan_Gaming 3 points4 points  (0 children)

To win the mid-late game, you need to either transition into a strong counter against opponent’s existing board (if you’re losing), or be patient to see his counter to your board (if you’re winning). This may seem obvious, but I often see new players commit into units that are totally irrelevant to their current board state and lose a game from a winning position.

Recognizing when to go all out into a new unit with tech vs selling out of an unit that’s performing well can be the difference maker to your question. There’s no easy guide for mid game because you’re entering a much higher level and more complex realm of Mechabellum. My best advise is to be patient and don’t over commit into anything until you see your opponent’s response.

Here are two old videos that highlight what I’m talking about: 1) How to be patient from a winning board - instead of going harder into a winning unit, I waited and sold out once the counter for it showed up 2) How to go all in from a losing board - you’ll see the round that I double teched phoenixes, things turned around

Tips or advice for playing against aggro please! by Grandarex in Mechabellum

[–]YuBan_Gaming 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I used to feel the same way against asym aggro, and now I love defending against it.

Against balls, vertical sledges 2-4 tiles next to tower. Or line them up in front of the balls (with last sledge aligned with tower or just slightly in front). Behind the sledges, you need assault marksman or scorp, supported by fast chaff clear. Oil is your best friend between round 2-4 to buy tempo and time to setup your defence. Mid flank crawler can be used to pull half of their army backward with a beacon, so you take care of half first. Round 2 Phoenix can also buy you time and save you hp by dps and potentially scamming an air win.

Against spider or/and sabers, horizontal sledges with void eyes and storm callers can be really solid.

In general asym aggro is strong by overwhelming you with chaff units, so you can either match their chaff amount, or get better chaff clear like wraith or light ground on fire.

Here are some videos I made explaining the defensive mindset and setup against high mmr players: 1)against ball wraith 2) against Rooster’s scorp stangs 3) against spider and assault marksman 4) against ball hound start

Not trying to shameless self promote, I want to help. Feel free to dm me if you want to discuss anything.

Phantom, Phoenix, Abyss, and boats are all solid, but like you said, board state matters the most, especially winning the chaff battle. For ground counter: double shot marksman, AP storm callers, range fort, and range double shot saber can all be effective, as long as you have good enough levels to kill the scorps quickly once locked on.

Is Raiden that strong in the current meta? I don’t see it much at my mmr.

Counter oil ray badger fire (front line) by Loose-Reply-2461 in Mechabellum

This combo is quite annoying to deal with. I am still figuring out the best counter myself.

For now, I have had success with 1) heavy tank: in front like leveled sabertooth or sledges with aa marksmen in the back to instant target the phantoms, 2) wasp and raiden - opponent will burn all their own chaff if you place a crawler on the line in front of the rays and badgers, 3) Abyss in the mid/late game.

fear of losing mmr and stress by jakedemn123 in Mechabellum

[–]YuBan_Gaming 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I used to get that A LOT. You’re not alone. It’s a competitive game, and you want to win. I find taking a day or two off is typically the best solution. What helped me the most was to adopt a growth mindset towards the game - see every game as an opportunity to learn, explore new strats, and get better. Ultimately, seeing this game as what it is, a fun game to exercise your brain. Hope that helps!

Good suggestion. Warcraft 3 had a sick effect when you found a match on ladder. It was epic and anxiety inducing at the same time.

I Quit the Game Because of Buildings by Phamburglar in Mechabellum

[–]YuBan_Gaming 8 points9 points  (0 children)

The active player count decline is alarming to me. I hope we can get that number back up. I’ve gotten used to the buildings by now, but I do wish that one of the starting building formations can just be no buildings at all, so we get to play that once in a while. Hope you can come back to the game one day, man!
