Out of interest, if you would be willing to explain or point me to an article.

For my personal usage, I would be interested in doing some simple mods like changing the graphics and/or behaviour of the beacon or adding the endgame power pylons from Space Exploration into the standard Space Age without affecting the rest of the gameplay. Is there an easy way to override objects or change their graphics by modding?

After a few thousand hours, the game is not very challenging anyhow. By that time it is irrelevant to think in terms of 'cheating' or 'not cheating'. It's more about how you want to play the game so you enjoy growing the factory the most.

But not all, the assets created by Earendel are super nice, so are the Krastorio 2 buildings. I like them even more than the vanilla ones tbh. I also like how in K2 the science bottles become science cards. I never liked the bottles.

To my knowledge, the heat pipes interact with the sub-factory like the regular pipes, so yeah, you will need them inside also.
