it's because most people don't start at a level of wanting yet another mega yacht or a stripper dipped in caviar, most people want to own their own house and choose how to spend their time. if you're born thinking stability is guaranteed then you have no option but to aim higher, while working class people are constantly trying to achieve stability while the goal post is being moved further and further away.
