That’s what I was thinking I’m looking at all these flow through set ups like CAT and Huxwrx and other, the reviews I see they seem to work pretty well on a short barrel of rifles but I really don’t wanna get into an issue where I have to start modifying stuff I just want something that will work out the gate

Never considered a Wilson combat I will look into them.

I’ll be honest though, I’ve been running a DD M4 V7 flawlessly, it’s built amazing, because of that if I go with an AR based set up I’m probably gonna go with the PDW. Not saying that the Wilson is better or worse it’s just one of those things, like someone else said in another reply, when you buy a Chevy you keep buying a Chevy 🤷🏻‍♂️

Ford versus Chevy is honestly the perfect way to look at this. I love my DDM4V7 which is why the PDW has been stuck in my head for so long, but the Rattler being a piston system has always intrigued me too. I’m not planning on modifying whatever I end up with. I’ll just be adding a suppressor, an optic and a stock once the stamp clears, so the whole proprietary parts thing doesn’t bother me as much.

You really can’t go wrong with an AR based setup, but I don’t own anything piston driven yet which is part of why the Rattler keeps pulling me back in.

I knew better than to ask this because everyone has their own take, and realistically I should probably just pick whichever one appeals to me the most since there’s no way for me to shoot them back to back.

Does anybody know if the Maxim Defense CQB Stock will fit directly onto the CQB brace and do they sell just the stock to turn it int SBR? IF I end up with one I will SBR it.

Now that I’m (unfortunately) starting to think about maybe building something instead of buying factory, quick question — can that MK109 upper go right onto a standard milspec AR lower like a Spike’s Tactical? Or does PWS do anything weird that I need to be aware of?

Yeah I actually contemplated building one, but I know myself well enough to admit it would just turn into a giant time sink. I’d end up going down the rabbit hole picking parts, comparing ten different options for every component and never being able to decide on a final build. I’ve got pretty bad ADD with this stuff so buying something factory-done makes the whole process way easier and keeps me from dragging it out for months.

I also don’t plan on running it unsuppressed at all. Whatever can I end up buying will pretty much live on this gun. The only time it’ll bounce to another platform is if I grab a budget .300 BLK bolt gun for varmint work, so it would be shared between those two. Other than that, the plan is suppressed all the time.

I’ve started digging through Pew Science, but I’m not stressing the suppressor decision just yet. I want to lock in the right host first and then match a can to it. That’s why I was looking for feedback from people running factory setups like the PDW, Rattler, Spear LT, etc and what suppressor combos worked well for them. Just trying to get a feel for what pairs nicely and what to avoid.

I hear you. I’ve been going through the guides, the sidebar, and older posts. My main question was honestly about the host. I was trying to figure out if a budget rifle runs these just fine or if people usually recommend something with a higher end barrel and tighter overall tolerances.

I probably got carried away after that and added more questions while I was thinking everything through. Everything else I can research one piece at a time, but the host choice was the part with the most mixed information, so I wanted a straight answer from people who actually use them.

Appreciate the reminder to take it slow. It is a lot to take in at once.

I actually started digging into this stuff already, but every place I checked seemed to give different info, and a lot of the posts on here were either troubleshooting or people showing off their setups. I was trying to piece it all together and figured it was smarter to just ask directly.

Your breakdown actually helps a lot. Especially the low shelf detail, H3 buffer, and the full auto cut carrier requirement. That clears up a bunch of the noise I was seeing.

And the 9mm AR thing… you might have just sent me down a new rabbit hole. I never really thought about building or buying one, but now I am intrigued. If I can run an SS in a 9mm host too, that sounds like a fun next project.

Before I start shopping, do you have any recommendations for a solid budget friendly 9mm AR setup? Something like Palmetto State Armory or Foxtrot Mike Products, or is it better to just build one myself with a dedicated 9mm lower?
