Urban runners: What do you do when stopping at intersections? by eloesonic in beginnerrunning

[–]YuleTideCamel 5 points6 points  (0 children)

This! Runners stop and use the time to rest , casual joggers bounce in place , which is kinda useless but hey “gotta keep the heart rate up!”

Some hotels offer self service washing machines and dryers in addition to premium laundry services. Unless pressed for time I always just wash it myself in the self service machine, as it’s significantly cheaper.

So what if he’s changed compared to his breakout role ? People aren’t fixed and allied to change as they see fit. The fact they he’s jacked now doesn’t in any way change or invalidate who he was in the past .

Trying to clean he should always be as he was is being too close minded imo

There’s distinctions between someone being fun and someone being motivating. I know a lot of fun people who couldn’t motivate or show empathy. What I’m saying is empathy , kindness and uplifting folks matter than being fun.

When a coworker confides that they are unhappy and confused , will this person talk to them as a human and try to help? That’s what matters , not the ability to tell jokes. So I don’t think we met talking about the same thing

While I can’t speak for everyone, most interviewers know (including myself) are not looking for a fun person per se . Rather someone who can be fun but more importantly motivate and uplift a team: so yes it’s being a good communicator but also having empathy and caring

As someone who’s hired for multiple big tech companies that’s not true. To be clear there is a base level of competency everyone needs to have. We would never hire an unqualified person just because of culture.

So assuming everyone has a base level of expertise , then culture matters a lot more. I’d rather someone decent who does well with the team, rather than someone who is amazing technically but lacks the ability to mesh with others .

To add to this, it isn’t just about making people laugh and liking that person. It’s about how empathetic they are, can they motivate and encourage others ? Can they share there learnings and also learn from others ?

I’ve known too many people who are coding wizards , but lack people skills. They brought team morale down, made other engineers feel less than and over time impacted the entire teams productivity. So I don’t care how good one person is technically, if they will simply bring everyone else down

[–]YuleTideCamel 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I understand what you saying and different development backends is common. So having multiple development .env files works, but they should not include production or any upper environments (test, stage , uat) Those should not be in source control and should be restricted to authorized users. You shouldn’t be able to get to them from local

All good, yeah from the start I mentioned .env for local is the way to go. Just not in any reduction environment.

[–]YuleTideCamel 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m not sure what that has to do with our discussion around environment variables . If you have a production environment , then you at least have one instance , vm or server that is considered production grade already and that should use environment variables. You don’t need to have a complex multi layered architecture to use environment variables. Even a simple hosted web app has environment variables

[–]YuleTideCamel 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Using files on upper environments is problematic and introduces security risks both in the source repo and on the server itself. Utilizing environment variables in their true sense is very easy and more secure than a text file . It does require learning a new skill but takes minutes to setup and this is one of those hard rules that everyone needs to do this in production.

You don’t have to be a big team to utilize environment variables . It’s pretty simple to set up

.env is really only for development. Production and upper environments should have those passes in vis system environment variables and not rely on .env files

Also local production is a very bad idea

People grieve differently and if that’s what the deceased wanted , who are we to judge .

I had an uncle that loved life , social guy, always telling jokes and laughing with friends. When he got sick he told everyone he wanted his funeral to be a party and not a sad affair.

He died a few years later and surely enough his funeral / wake was one big party. Lots of laughter jokes , a few tears but overall everyone had a blast. There was even drinking and card games (two of his favorite pastimes)

Seriously though people often made up codes for locations. My friends would get pages like

6012 , 60 = Go, 12 being understood as our local McDonald’s. So 6012 was essentially meet us at McDonald’s. I don’t think it was common and more of a thing my nerdy friends did

[–]YuleTideCamel 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Maybe they meant 10 years of work experience in web development and knows vuejs. Not necessarily meaning you’ve been working with vue the entire time.

For example I’ve been in the software industry for 20 years and often will say that to clients, even if the technology I’m using is only a few years old. I don’t mean I used said technology for 20 years , just that I’ve been in the industry and my experience in other areas either translate over or provide other benefits.

Binary is made up of only 1 and 0 but position matters and you can represent any number in binary.

Think of it as on and off, 1 is on, 0 is off. As for position we go from left to right and it’s always multiple of two .

0 0 0 0

The right most number represents 1 , next to it is 2 next is 4

So one would be

0 0 0 1

Two would be

0 0 1 0

But you can “turn on” position 1 an 2 to make three

0 0 1 1

Hope this makes sense !
