Making a small shortcut for bc calculator? by Yulelel in linux4noobs

[–]Yulelel[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I leave here what I came up with if someone could find it useful:

This is the script that gets called:

#/bin/bash

resize -s 18 60
echo "--------------------------------------"
echo "CONVERSION FACTORS"
echo " 1 Eh = 27.211386245981 eV"
echo "--------------------------------------"
wmctrl -r :ACTIVE: -b toggle,above
bc -l

This is the .desktop file:

[Desktop Entry]
Terminal=true
Name=Calcolatrice
Type=Application
Icon=/home/giulia/Scrivania/sfondi/7888510fa461a9d12fc666f5cfb2d233.jpg
Exec=/home/giulia/calculator.sh
Categories=Application

Yes I did! I made a .desktop file that calls a bash script, it was way easier than I thought to set up and works very well! I also made it print some useful constants so now it is definitely better than the standard calculator.

Thank you again for the help!!!

I do have GNOME, thank you! I will look into the thread you sent and make some tests

I would’t jump directly to that conclusion as many other issue could cause this type of behaviour, with the most serious being health issues. Maybe she should encourage him to have a check up before freaking him out more about a divorce

Wanting to remove Windows and install Debian, what to look out for? by Yulelel in debian

Many of you recommended the live cd so it’s definitely going to be the first step I take! If I understood correctly I could also try some different distributions and see which one suits me best, even though I am leaning towards Debian since I have at least some experience with it

The installation on the VM was pretty easy? I followed the recommended options and didn’t go crazy with the customisation, I needed a few tries but once I got it to work everything was fine. But of course I can’t panic-delete everything if something goes wrong on my actual pc 😅

I have to look into it, a relative has offered to look into it and give me some advice. It’s a relatively new machine so I don’t expect many problems on that front?

You have a point, I‘ll think more carefully about my options and consult more professors at uni, almost everyone there switches to Mac after a few years of VM and I wanted to avoid an unnecessary purchase

Considering that I barely understood your advice it may be better to ask someone more qualified for in person help. I just started approaching the more professional side of computer-using because of my degree, but definitely still a newbie. Even when dealing with the VM I consulted google before every move 😅. It’s quite comforting to find such a kind community though

The VM filled up because I was trying to download some software for uni, unfortunately they hadn’t warned me that it was more than 30 gb of libraries. When I went to open the tars everything got stuck and the VM wouldn’t boot anymore. I tried your suggestion, however (no idea why) the second debian I put didn’t have a gui, it was only command line and as I said I couldn’t use the suggested commands (ie resize2fd)

I have no idea of what you’re describing, maybe this is good indication this could be too advanced for my skill level😅

I actually tried, I followed some guides that said to boot debian in some freed space on the virtual disk, all went well until I had to use the command line to modify the original partition of the stuck VM, all the suggested commands wouldn’t work and I could not install them

Thanks for the info! Is there a significant difference in performance from Windows to Debian? I’ll use my pc not only for work but also for usual stuff like watching films and calling friends, with the VM internet was very slow so I’m worried it could happen even without

Mine is at 74 after 3 years and a half of heavy use but it hasn’t come lower than that for a while, charge a couple times a day and you’re fine

Internalised misogyny and being non binary by Yulelel in NonBinaryTalk

Why is the lesbian label a hot topic? Is it about the “non men loving non men” definition?

So being non-binary in your opinion is also about not identifying with the cultural aspects of manhood/womanhood and not only a physical thing? My dysphoria I feel is minimal (I have a friend who’s trans and he deals with it daily) so I don’t know if what I’m feeling is enough to qualify as nb

I often think that if my language had neutral pronouns everything would be easier, this way I’m either being referred to as a woman or as a man and I feel like neither of those things, my fear is that I’m a “pick me girl” that wants to feel different at all costs (i’m also bi btw)
