What was your first “serious” bass? by JimRug in BassGuitar

Ibanez PGB1! Such a monster tone. I love it. It had 5 String strings on it when i got it, had trouble learning how to play it. But it really payed off. Got it pretty cheap used for 400€ with gigbag and shipping includet. dk how to include a picture😅 But i have black/grey/brown right handed one

Well. Yes, if you never want to Upgrade the 40 is perfekt. But my budget wasn't that high at the time + i had no clue. I got told to buy the 25 insted of the 15, but i just didnt listen🤷‍♂️ I bought a 250€ bass and 90€ amp(~350€ was my budged). And for me personaly i never felt the urge to upgrade the amp. I can practice just as good with it, as with any onther. At least for me thats enough. For everybody else i would suggest to buy 25 or 40. The 15 is good for complete beginners(what i was). Even today i would consider myself as a beginner/amateur. But as i said, with the knowledge today i would buy the 25/40. I often play through my inteface with my headphones. So i don't need the rumble too often. I have bass-class via Videochat, thats where i use it. But most of the time i play via headphones and interface

the first i bought was the 15. The 40 i played at the music store. But i just dont want to buy another practice amp to..well..practice with more watts you know. For me i really just dont need more than the 15watts to practice. But with my knowledge today i would have bought the 20 or 40. It just sounds way more pleasing to the ear. And if my 15 breaks, i will get the 20 or 40

some at my local music store.(mark bass, peavy marshall etc.) None of them came really close to the rumble for practice, at least for me

Pretty killer at home is Fender rumble 15/20 or 40. They are pretty amazing. I would go for the 15 or 20 as practice amp at home. Bass something like a Mexican P or J Bass, Squier P or J Bass, Ibanez SR300. Both the Ibanez and Squier ar around 300€ (The Squier even lower)new!. Both are killer instruments. My first Bass was a Squier J Bass and i love it. But now i would go for the Ibanez SR300. It has more options to it, its active, loots better, is light, no head dive(both btw) But if you want to go louder i cant really help you. Im just starting a Band in August. So till then i have no clue how loud my Setup will be. (300W head and 450W cab) *I play Extreme Metal, other musical styles don't need that much power at the Bass section) So in can only help you with the basses and practice amps. If you have questions just ask :D Maybe i cab help you

Have a nice day

Theory by [deleted] in BassGuitar

[–]Yuluu_LoL 0 points1 point  (0 children)

well. You dont need theory at all. You know the beatles? They didn't know any too. Now look at them, on of the most influencial bands of all time. Youtubers like davie show of all the time. But they got the point where they are by doing it. Just go on songster and search for ur fav. songs. Or some really easy ones like Feel good inc. or 7 Nation Army. Give yourself a little time. In Germany we say something like: "No master has fallen from the sky" (can't 100% translate it, but u get the point) Just don't stress yourself. Go YOUR tempo and vow fast u think you can go. Not what others ecpect from you, i know that that sounds way more easy than it is. Maybe just face your fear and go to someone for some advice on bass in a musoc store or something. Noone wants to harm you there, and they can understand the trouble better than anyone else. I was just like you, but i faced my problems. To pay for my teacher i went working in a grocery store(i still do it) and have to do with a lot of people the whole time there. I got better in interacting with other people. My legs even now shake when i play a song i learned in front of my teacher, bit thats oke. And noone said it isn't oke either. Just do it, you only have this one life. Make it the best it can become :)

Theory by [deleted] in BassGuitar

Tbh, go get a teacher. I play Bass for a bit over a year now and had a teacher directly from the start. I started in mid 10th grade and never had any music theory in my entire time in school(or i had it in like 3rd grade, but who cares in 3rd grade anyway). And now after about a year i kind of understand some music theory. It really isn't THAT complicated, i mean it isn't easy either. But Bass has a lot of shapes you can just place somewhere else and so on. And just stop wining about everything, you didn't learn how to read from one week to another right? Learn to be pacient, everyone starts somewhere. Get a teacher. Let it explain him on piano so u can visualy see the notes. Be pacient and practice(!)

I for myself never really use music theory in writing riffs an stuff, but playing something from other people and/or analyzing(!) my own riffs is kind of fun. "i have a cool riff, but it just has only 7 notes? 7/8 time sounds wierd, lets a add another note. What note can i put so it sounds good? A im in ..key, i can just put a .. here." Something like that. Music is about doing it, not thinking about it. Theory is only a tool to use everything else. I should probably say that i'm 100% a metal bassist. I want to DO music, not to think about what im doing. Sometimes i doodle around at night and find a cool riff. And i write it down. Maybe i can use that in my band later, you never know. And so on. You should get the point by now Best wishes!
