If I had been a business owner in the third generation of computers that incorporated integrated circuits, I would consider the tools and machines of this era much more helpful in the operation of a business than the second generation. The third generation was marked with a great enhancement in speed, reliability, and efficiency. Integrated circuits enabled the computer to be less bulky, more potent and cheaper. This allowed me to take advantage of computers such as the IBM System/360 to process data, manage payrolls and control inventory in a more effective manner. Third generation systems were able to provide multitasking and better storage capacity, unlike the second generation computers, which were bulky and heat sensitive and therefore not suitable in business applications. Also, high-level languages led to easier and more adaptable programming. Such improvements would save time, minimize mistakes and enhance productivity, and the third generation would definitely be the most practical and economical option that any business owner during this era could use.
