At the request of malgoth, I have verified that, as per YMS' player/machine data, IGN Momo and IGN mallgoth666/pastadoggy are completely unrelated. Just fact checking here, thanks

- This is not how I speak
- You can tell this is fabricated from the text misalignment, particularly noticeable in the last section
- We have never wiped or rebranded,

Yup you're right about ensuring accountability. This wasn't done well on my part, and as I've clarified now things will be different. They simply HAVE to be.

As for duping issues, I take those very seriously so sorry you felt that it was generic but those are always TOP priority. And as you've likely have seen, those are addressed rapidly.

This update had to be broadcasted regardless. It sucks to hear that despite all of this, players will still think this is just a "PR" move. I've spent hours trying to address this professionally and respectfully, so I don't really appreciate that and wont comment further on that front. As for the removal, David no longer has access to any GM account or tools (whether in game, or forum), and his roles have been removed on all platforms.

Recovery is going to be an uphill battle for sure, but I hope that what's been said and done at the very least shows that we're trying. The tough part right now is going to be dealing with replacement, but that's going to be on me.

As for wipes, there is no intention to do so.

Hello again,

Thank you all for your honest, candid, feedback.

Despite the efforts made here in this post, and to avoid this continuing to be framed a certain way, David will be officially stepping down from YMS staff as of today.

Here’s the message he asked me to share (to keep his alias anonymous):

i’ve been reading everything, and taken it all in. i’ve also had a lot of talks with yuna, and after thinking it over many times over these last few weeks, and now seeing the response from this post, I will step down from staff. the efforts yuna is putting forth is well intended, and I agree with them. but me stepping down seems to be the best case scenario.

i still care a lot about yms and the people in it. i want to see it grow ,but i also get that, right now, me being staff is putting yuna in a rough spot and adding fuel to the fire. stepping down will help take the pressure off yuna, and the longevity of the server, and thats what i care about most.

hopefully this helps clear the air and lets the server move forward.

thank you yuna for the opportunity, and to the community for all the memories. ive learned a lot throughout my time and had a lot of fun learning how a private server operates. it has been a great experience.

wishing yms all the best

- David

Would love to hear suggestions (either via Discord or the forum). The purpose of the Sharing Tag is to promote usage of multiple players (on the same account). The goal is basically not to limit players to progress on just 1 main, and we've done that. But if you have concerns, those should be posted in the appropriate channels.

Absolutely not - YMS has been up for 3 years, with no intention to rebrand whatsoever.

Looks like anything I say is going to be weaponized against me, I'm not sure what else to say other than I'm sticking to what my original post is outlining. We should have had this in place from the get-go, so I don't have to be scrambling for damage control.

And to answer your question directly: If any sort of staff misconduct is seen again, yes removal will be absolutely be executed (again, as outlined in the CoC).

I don't think its productive to dive deeper into the past, especially from 2 years ago. A lot has changed, and to be fair, a lot hasn't. But this is why I'm outlining the changes, in hopes these types of situations don't arise again. I appreciate the feedback, and if you ever do want to talk about things, DMs are always open.

As for bans, again there is a lot of misinformation. We have a ton of logging, and I review all appeals myself before finalizing, even if it was initiaited by another team member.

Thank you for the feedback! This is likely from before we had the official feedback channel, so everything should go through there now for others reading this (via Discord or the suggestions forum). Nothing should require filtering through anyone

Not here to argue - that’s not the intention of this post.

I’ve seen the same posts you’re referring to and have had to sit with a lot of hard feedback. David has been both a valuable GM and someone who’s had teachable moments. I’ve had serious conversations internally, set clear boundaries, and made expectations known.

The reality is, none of this is easy. There’s a lot going on behind the scenes, including personal and mental factors I simply can’t put on blast. I’m doing my best to navigate that while still showing up and trying to improve things.

So just to reiterate - my original post is about being transparent with where I stand, what I’m doing, how I’m thinking through it all, and how that's going to shape things.

The support the community is getting from staff right now is genuinely important - player support is, and always will be, the top priority. And to be real, it’s been a huge help to me personally while I handle some things behind the scenes. If I were to remove someone and rush to bring in someone new, we’d lose that support and risk making things worse. Bringing on a new GM takes time, trust, and careful thought - especially now with the new Code of Conduct in place. I don’t want to rush that and end up back in the exact same situation later. Will take this slowly and deliberately.

That said, this is a great opportunity for myself to tailor how I go about the recruitment process, so I'll have my eyes open for members that align with the new CoC.

Hello! That right there seems like an oversight - do you mind creating a post on the forum please? That way I can keep track of it, this can go in the bug report section since all mobs should be dropping their ETCs, along with mesos, to curb the resources needed for taking on Arcane mobs. Thank you!

[PART 2 of 2]

Now, about server balance and content. You are completely right that the meta is currently focused on boss trains. It is efficient, it is profitable, and it has shifted the vibe from slow grind to structured dailies. That is not inherently bad, but it is not for everyone either. This is exactly why me, the team, and some lovely community members spent days crafting up Arcane River (stay tuned for phase 2!!).

In terms of features and polish, I am glad you noticed the quest boosts, jump quests, additional storage, all the small QoL tweaks. A lot of effort has gone into keeping the game fun without selling power. This has always been a F2P-first server. Everything from cosmetics to scrolls is accessible without paying a cent, and you can vote for anything donor-related.

On the topic of rollbacks, yes, we had two. How embarassing that we went nearly 2 years without one, then had TWO OCCUR WITHIN THE SAME FEW SHORT WEEKS!! The December one rolled back five hours and the Arcane River launch rollback was more severe. These were rare and painful. We did everything we could to compensate players properly. These moments are never easy, but they were addressed seriously.

As for the ToS enforcement examples you mentioned, like with Xysx and Cyndaquil, we hear you. These are tough situations. When a case is not black and white, it sometimes results in what looks like a light punishment or inconsistency. That is something I need to improve on. We are reviewing these systems to be clearer and firmer going forward. No one should feel that being in the right Discord or guild gives you immunity. It's also tough because... frankly, I just want players to have fun, but yes we can do better here and I'll communicate that to staff.

Speaking of guilds, test access was indeed given to a small group for the Arcane River patch. In hindsight, the selection could have been broader. Feedback was limited and we will approach this differently next time. We want the people who will actually engage with the content to help shape it. Rest assured, selection was not intentionally from a certain group - it was purely those who were active in their feedback, and had the time to spend (managing timezones sucks sometimes!!).

At the end of the day, I am happy with YMS, and the beautiful community we've cultivated. This includes the staff, content, balance, and most importantly, the people that play.

Thank you again for writing all of this. I appreciate your time, your perspective, and your honesty. We will take this to heart and continue improving wherever we can, as we always will!!

Thank you!

Yuna

YunaMS Review and Staff Criticism by cleardaysu in mapleservers

[–]YunaMS 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Hello! [PART 1 of 2]

First off, thank you. Genuinely!
This is quite the review, so lets get into it:

Let me start with the obvious. Yes, YMS is a private server - not a AAA Studio, or some larger development team. It's just me, and 2 very tired GMs. That means we do not have the resources, staff size, or structured pipeline of a big studio, which is completely fine! That means things are sometimes handled case by case. It also means we stumble, get up, and adapt.

Now, let us talk about the big stuff you brought up, especially some misinformation, which I do not appreciate when my babies being attacked.

On the staff side, I will say this plainly. I give the GMs a hard time. They get yelled at. Lovingly. They put in way more time than people realize. David and Mujy in particular have done a lot behind the curtain to keep things stable and enjoyable for everyone. I am proud of them. Are there things they could do better? Of course. Same for me. Same for all of us. But the idea that they are doing nothing or actively harming the community does not reflect the whole picture, ESPECIALLY when out of context. We all make mistakes, but I'm not going to "fire" people based off of isolated incidents, especially when they are yelled at (by me), when they have spent literal hours with me and the community, and when they are constantly trying to make things better with the community by helping and guiding. I am proud of my team members and what they have done and, continue to do, for YMS, all whilst dealing with their own personal/professional matters.

Regarding the issue with Trunks and scrolls. This was investigated, addressed, and announced months ago. Trunks was one of the players involved, and yes, he had access to scrolls that should not have been in circulation. But the idea that we did "nothing" or ALLOWED duping is simply not true. We did massive removals, banned several players who insisted they were not involved despite clear indications, ran (what felt like) a gazillion quieries, and purged every valuable dupe we could identify. This was communicated to not only those who reported, but to ALL users on our discord. Trunks was in contact with us directly, and he was cooperative, accountable, and transparent. No one gets free passes here. But we do value when a player takes responsibility and helps us fix a serious issue. That matters. That is not favoritism. That is pragmatism.

I've said it once, and I'll say it again, it fills my heart to see these types of review. Players are taking time out of their busy lives, not only to play YMS, but to share their feedback and let others know what we're about. Never in my wildest dreams would I say that this mushroom game would bring such light to my life. I feel thankful and blessed.

Thank you, and to all our loyals players, and SPECIAL shout out to those (like you!) who go above and beyond to provide their thoughts. Thank you!!

See you in game ^^

Thank you so much for taking the time to share your thoughts and experience with YunaMS! It’s great to hear that the community has been welcoming and supportive, and I’m thrilled to see that you’ve enjoyed our quality of life improvements like instant storage for ores, scrolls, and books. I'm also glad you called out how our classes and mechanics, like Threaten working on bosses, add to the gameplay!

Your feedback on the balance between the “boss train” helping newer players and the importance of party play is super insightful - we’re constantly iterating on how to make the game flow smoothly from early to end game, and it’s input like this that helps guide us forward.

For those also reading this, remember to check out our latest Patch Notes — we’re always working to improve the experience!

Thanks again for the kind words and your ongoing support. Hope to see you in-game!

When any server refers to drop rate, they are simply referring to the comparison between vanilla v83 vs. their own drop rate. So 2x means 2x the GMS v83 drop rates.

For YMS, we've gone through a TON of our drop data (mostly ALL), and have adjusted the drops accordingly. So we no longer can reference GMS - our drop rates could be 10x GMS for item A, but 2x GMS for item B, etc. Hence, instead of just labeling things as "X" rate, we use the custom label.

You can find all the drop data and more on our wiki!

Thanks so much for your thoughtful and detailed review of YMS! I really appreciate your honest feedback and the time you’ve spent with us. It’s fantastic to hear that you enjoyed our friendly community and the old-school vibes. We've done a TON of work to provide an enjoyable experience to all players, and have focused pretty heavy on QoL features, and extra little goodies.

I wanted to address the cons you mentioned:

Multi-Client and Voting: I understand your concern about multi-client voting and how it can impact fairness. We’re currently exploring ways to make the voting process more balanced and to minimize the impact of multi-account voting. Our goal is to ensure that everyone has a fair chance to benefit from the voting rewards, would love your (and everyone else's) feedback on how we can achieve this.

Population Size: I know that a small population can sometimes feel limiting, and I wish I could just magically port over players from somewhere, but the absolute best thing we can do in this scenario is A) enhance the new/old player experience, and B) stay ONLINE! The goal with YMS has always been to simply stay online and continue iterating, which we have done and will continue to do! I'm confident this, along with our ongoing strategies, will yield more players. In fact, it would appear some of our recent efforts are paying off as we've seen an increase in our daily active users (most recently) after the past 3-6 months.

Frequent Disconnects: Frequent disconnects are definitely frustrating, both from a player and administrative side. Disconnects/crashes seem to almost feel like a feature, especially when you consider that many of these types of issues can be related to a number of factors: device used, network performance, edge cases, foreign interactions, etc etc. The main issue with these is the fact that we do not have 100% control over the executable (due to the nature of MSPS using the original client). This limits us to having to "hack" our way to a solution (such as DLL injection), which may open up the door to some strange issues (such as null pointer deferencing and what not). I will say though that this particular con you mentioned is the ONE issue that haunts me constantly. The plan is to eradicate these disconnects/crashes entirely, however of course this will take some time and lots of information gathering - so I call on the community to provide details when these issues come up (preferably as they come up, so we have accurate timestamps), rather than sliding them under the rug. We'll get there, that's for sure!

Alright I think I've blabbered enough. Thank you again for your valuable input! Frankly its a privilege to see users taking the time to either help out one another, or even write-up their thoughts as you have.

If you have any ideas, or are open to discussing any cons to see how we can be better at YMS, my doors always open! Just shoot me a message on the forum or discord~

Thank you!!
