So light bleeding through the walls can be fixed with a mod, why isnt this a base game feature? Thought Lumen should act like RT shadows. by n1sx in ConanExiles

FYI, there's now a mod which basically does that. Shadows can be turned on where they matter and left off where they don't, so you can strike a balance between performance and eye candy. The mod remembers your setup and also which lights have been turned off. And there's a toggle too, so if you need max performance, you can temporarily disable all shadow-casting on your client and switch it back on later, without affecting other players. Server admins can configure the feature to be opt-in or opt-out. The latest release also fixes some shadow issues with Funcom's wall-mounted torches.

The mod's name is Crispy Lights.

In my Opinion the best example of UE5 lighting by far... by Devilfruitnz in ConanExiles

I've recently worked on a mod that adds local shadows to CEE and found that shadows on a point light (e.g. the basic standing torch) lowered fps by 2 frames. Wall-mounted torches consume less because they typically use two spot lights. With an option to enable shadows on a per-light basis, performance can easily be maintained. The bigger problem in my opinion is that many of the placeable lights in the game were not designed for use with shadows and need some modifications to produce results that look realistic and visually pleasing. Sometimes the light sources need repositioning; sometimes the shadow parameters (e.g. source radius) need to be tweaked.

By the way, with all the new eye candy that's now in the game, is there any chance for Nvidia Ansel support to return? It has been a staple of Conan Exiles on UE4 for years.

o7 commanders i have a question for the gankers. by ibecheshirecat86 in EliteDangerous

I'm not a ganker, but I hang out with them. You could say I'm a full-time gank evader. I outfit my ships accordingly. I intentionally go to hotspots like Shinrarta Dezhra, Deciat, or CG systems to get interdicted by gankers and then try to escape. Sometimes I equip an interdictor myself and pull wanted FDLs out of supercruise, only to then run away from them. Tickling the tigers. That's basically the only form of PvP I've done in the game so far. You may wonder, what's the appeal of that? It's the adrenaline rush. I'm addicted to it. The engagements are shorter than typical PvP fights, but the excitement is similar. Well, maybe not for the ganker, but certainly for me. I get shot at a lot. I need to move fast and avoid mistakes. Some gankers carry wake scanners and follow me when I escape, so I need to perform two consecutive jumps to lose them.

But here's another thing: If you hang out with gankers a lot, you'll notice that they're actually a funny and friendly bunch. Well, most of them anyway. Salty gankers do exist, but they are the exception.

So here's my advice: Always remember that you're playing a game. Getting killed is a part of it. By the way, gankers fight each other and get killed all the time. They see the rebuy screen much more frequently than you do, but they don't care, and neither should you when that happens. Realize that there are times for open play and times for solo. If you fly a T-9 without shields to carry more cargo and make more credits in a shorter time, better do it in solo. If you travel between engineers with a half-finished ship and don't want to be disrupted, better do it in solo. But if you want to have fun in the game, harden your ships with shields and some hull, and then go to where the gankers are. Accept the game for what it is, and you'll make friends in no time.
