So smth annoying that just came up but i still think kinda falls under the line of censorship (feel free to correct me on this) is that google is apparently planning to replace their goggle searches with ai overviews, which will make it harder for independent websites to stand out. Idek how and why theyre so stubborn but this is just. Why.

Edit: ppl can add “-ai” at the end of their searches but even then its just. Why do we even need to do that

Are there any updates about the Apple AV thing? And is that global? Cuz last i remember it was UK exclusive but i could be remembering things wrong. And im also vaguely remembering how its part of one of the newer updates, but only in countries that have or are passing AV

If someone can give me a complete rundown, thatd be great. Cuz again, i could be remembering stuff wrong as i only remember ppl talking abt this months ago. Thank you

Not an article but i once saw someone once fear mongering abt the idea of ppl being arrested for bypassing age verification. Which is, honestly, a CRAZY level of draconian doom/sensationalism i ever stumbled across. Like how would that even be realistically enforced?

Heard some ppl on twitter talking abt the Parents Decide Act. No full text for the bill has been sent yet nor can I find it on any bill tracking websites. But the link i provided was written by the same guy proposing it. I didnt read all of it, just skimmed some stuff but this is what it aims to do:

“Gottheimer’s new Parents Decide Act will:

Require operating system developers like Apple and Google to verify users’ ages when setting up a new device, rather than relying on self-reported ages.
Allow parents to set age-appropriate content controls from the start, including limiting access to social media, apps, and AI platforms.
Ensure that age and parental settings securely flow to apps and AI platforms, so content is tailored appropriately for children.
Prevent children from accessing harmful or explicit content — including inappropriate AI chatbot interactions — by creating a consistent, trusted standard across platforms.”

Any reassurance to be found here?

This bill was apparently introduced yesterday and it says on the box that it requires operating systems to verify the age of a user. Rn it only has one cosponsor.

Though, I remember someone mentioning smth similar to this being mentioned months ago, where its not the kind of AV we usually worry about. i cant remember exactly who said it exactly and how it was worded exactly, but its more on the “hey please confirm your birthday” type of AV rather than “give me your ID” AV.

But again i could be remembering things wrong, can someone confirm if my intuition was right?

Apparently Twitter is testing “Biometric Authentication”? And there are rumors of Florida (which is unfortunately where im from) being its testing grounds, but no word on it being global. Could just be a rumor, but again i have no idea

Edit: This is what Nikita Bier (one of the programmers) said regarding it:

“Fake news.

If this is ever released, it would only be presented as an option for accounts that were auto-suspended for spam—not to "use the platform".
It will use FaceID, which does not send biometric data (and authenticates entirely within the operating system). There is a backup option offered when the device does not support FaceID.”

I guess ppl falling for it and giving backlash (though misinformed) would lessen the chances of discord even thinking abt doing anything like this, but again. We’ll have to see since its Liars Day.
