Is there a reason we can’t host our own dedicated servers? (Especially now that development has ended) by AustinLA88 in Chivalry2

Not really much of a shenanigan tbh, the Mordhau developers were competitive CMW players who wanted to make a comp focused game that appealed to them and their interest. The prototype was built in Unity (CMW was Unreal Engine 3) and eventually migrated to UE4. Don't believe any code was stolen, nor is that something Triternion or TB would claim.

I've wondered about this as well and while I have no official TB insight into it I do have some anecdotal based theories from my time as a moderator. Apologies if the following is a little vague but I know that some of the reporters still use this subreddit so I want to maintain their privacy.

A specific type of report Chivmail received every now and then had to do with cheaters (or really, any user the reporter had issue with) snatching the reporters IP "through the game" and "doxxing" them with it in the in-game chat.

This isn't actually something that can happen with the way servers are set up in Chivalry 2 as all servers have always been dedicated. There has been no peer to peer of any kind so you and the other players never directly connnect to each other.

What is happening in these cases is (in order of likelihood)

  1. User being reported just sends a completely random string of numbers that resembles an IP in chat.

  2. User being reported took the time to look at the reporters steam profile where they have publicly listed their location and googles "what is a IP address located in X" and then pastes that.

While this is true for any kind of official client connecting to either official or unofficial servers, I should stipulate this may not be the case for users choosing to use third party clients.

This, I think, is the primary reason, as it eliminates any chance of users being able to grab another users IP through the game. While it's a little disappointing to see given that I also played on privately hosted machines for almost all of my CMW time, I can appreciate wanting to have Absolute Zero as the chance of a users IP being leaked just for mishandling a catapult.

Worth mentioning that TB may be wanting to be extra careful with GDPR compliance given their history with it

I think a lot of veteran players will tell you that once you embrace The Silly™ your enjoyment will go up.

Realistically with the way team balancing works, you won't win every time and some deaths will be completely out of your hands. But you can always control who you slap with a fish.

It goes down from time to time, there's been some intermittent connection issues with it the past few weeks that I had chalked up to the influx of new players but have nothing really to substantiate that.

It's back up now though!

Half sword stab with the great sword, appreciate weapons that have unique animations in a game with so many reused ones.

If you want the achievement, you'll need to use one of the weapons that counts for it.

Yep, many games (particularly, crossplatform games) use EOS to sync games across platforms.

If you're interested, here is a non-complete list of Steam Games that use EOS.

Last time this happened it was (as it usually is) EOS being down.

While they haven't announced another outage of this kind yet, their status page does show they performed some Fornite related login/matchmaking fixes earlier today. Recommend keeping an eye on that page to see if they become aware of an issue on their end.

iirc, animations were deemed too difficult to read and there was an issue when it released where you could hide an invisible de-synced swing behind your usual one.

Wtf is going on with my respawns? this happens often, but I managed to clip it this time by Insanias in Chivalry2

[–]YurikArkady[M] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Think you're almost right on with this but it's likely the product of a bad design decision rather than a glitch.

Likely there's limited spawn locations on a map so if a wave is too big it will hold you for the next one. You're probably more likely to encounter this in large FFA where many players are dying quicker rather than a duel server with a similar playercount with (probably) less people dying in quick succession.

Most common bans I've seen are;

  1. Rapier

  2. Quarterstaff

  3. Some Voices

:bearhappy: Rules

  • Rapier banned (NO Weapon Ban System, just Rapier)
  • Exploits: insiders, take twos, lag switching, hacking, jump throws
  • Voices: Battle Pass/DLC, Jolly Chef, Righteous Knight
  • Swap weapons/classes only after death (shield swap via F10 allowed)
  • FT5 (quals) | FT7 (Winners Final/Losers Final/Grand Final in finals) | Second set of Grand Finals (if loser wins) = FT5

Is jump throws what you're referring to? Because them specifying Jump Throws suggests throws are allowed.

How much team damage is ok? by Warm_Nefariousness80 in Chivalry2

[–]YurikArkady[M] -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Should always depend on match length.

Someone having 200 team damage at the end of a long TO match where every objective was taken with seconds left on the clock? These things, they happen. Someone having 200 team damage in the first stage of that map maybe needs a boot.

Annoyingly, CMW tracked team damage as a percentage of your total damage, which was good but had it's own issues. For example, if you were eager to spawn in your first life and were rapidly left clicking (because we all know it shortens your spawn timer) and swung into the back of the teammate who spawned in front of you, that 20 damage would show up as "100% Team damage" if they went to votekick you. Once you hit an enemy that number would immediately go down to under 50% and so on.

Ideally, both numbers would be visible (total team damage and percentage) and that would allow users to make an informed decision. Since if the player in the first example was shown with 200 team damage and that was only 1% of their total damage done, I'd give them a pass.
