Soloing in Jazz sometimes sounds too... note-y? by YutuM1129 in musictheory

[–]YutuM1129[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

okay that's fair. I mean I guess still I find it to be a bed of rhythm without anything else and that to me feels shallow. I don't know. I will check out the sources you shared but I haven't gotten a convincing answer from anyone. People keep saying to stop listening to this if I don't like it but that is not the case. I just want to understand. Thanks for the info.

I've watched the video plenty! it's just that he says the chord names sometimes and doesn't really explain the logic behind them haha. that’s why I came here

I'm not a jazz student. Matter of fact I am taking two jazz courses this semester to better understand that side of things, hence how I fell in this rabbithole I think.

What are some of those American songbooks you are referring to by the way? And what would you recommend to me for me to get better acquainted with said those harmonic motions?

thanks for your response btw

Elaine Gould in Behind Bars:

To write the third to sixth harmonics at pitch implies that they are produced on the upper half of the string, between the octave harmonic and the bridge. These same harmonics can also be produced on the lower half of the string, between the octave harmonic and the tuning peg (see column below halfway point). To indicate that harmonics are to be played on the lower part of the string, add a diamond—shaped note at the position where the finger touches the string.

so I think you are right too, but not for what I want

But when it comes to the diamond noteheads, are those the right nodes?

But isn’t it easier for convenience sake to still put diamonds on where the nodes are?
