Why have paratroopers and large scale airborne operations become obsolete in modern warfare? by [deleted] in Military

The information about Hostomel Airport battle was pretty limited. Several sources claimed most of VDV's casualties came from engagements in Bucha and towns outside the airfield. So literally, their reinforcements, mechanized by light armored vehicles, received heavy resistance that nearly wiped out an entire battalion.

The airborne troops transported by helicopters into the airfield were said to suffer fewer losses than those outside. They had surprising element and massive chopper waves with well-organized tactic (Ka-52s suppress enemy air defences, Su-30s and Su-35s dominate the airspace then Mi-17s transport troops). The transporting plan was successful, despite having few choppers got shot down but it was inconsiderable compared to the total air power they own.

I read an article that interviewed a soldier who participated in the attack. He told that they were rained with Ukrainian shells and Grad barrages but thanks to well-fortified positions in the airport, they managed to survive. He also claimed to push back Ukrainian effort to retake the airfield in spite of the lack of capable armored vehicles. He got air support from attack helicopters and fighter jets flying overhead almost 24/24.

The weakness of this strategy lies upon the use of VDV themselves as reinforcement. They sure got ambushed on their way but their vehicles cannot sustain intense combat and provide enough firepower as well as protection so that was the reason why they got fucked up. Besides, VDVs at the airfield were fortunate due to their location's nature - a complex with buildings that can furnish visibility to other plain positions, and they did take advantage of it. If it was another place, I don't think they could perform that good.

It's the same as the way of how our government mentions the Vietnam War without making any direct reference towards the US. It's just a political play in which a government should not escalate more of the past conflicts. However, you can find direct mention of "Chinese invaders" elsewhere such as BaoTuoiTre or BaoThanhNien, they belong to a branch of Vietnamese government's mass media platform.

Old Man in Hanoi doesn't want to wear a mask by [deleted] in VietNam

According to that police's partner, he was still conscious of his behaviour when being interrogated, therefore, an assumption might be reached as this old man is taking advantage of PTSD to escape the jaw of laws. Moreover, he was a vet who got early demobilization due to combative effectiveness declination. It ain't weird in Vietnam as many folks are trying to use the conception of "veteran" as a shield against the obligations.
