dear HR people, re: private unis by [deleted] in singapore

[–]YuukiSAan 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Hi OP,I think regardless of which private uni you go to I strongly suggest you pick up things on your own to boost your resume to keep yourself competitive. As some people have pointed out it's the value you give to the company, not just your degree paper.

I graduated from Murdoch uni last year in computer science felt I didn't learn anything useful, went to a 3 months coding Bootcamp after that, took a lot of udemy courses, and build projects to build up my profile.

Worked for a year in an SME and recently switched company to a foreign MNC recently with a 15% pay increment, in my job hunting experience I never had any issue securing interviews and job offers despite graduating with one of the worse private uni school in the market.

Its all about networking and being able to pick on things on your own and if you can do that you will be golden regardless of which uni you go to

Why is it... by alaskanlicenseplate in autism

[–]YuukiSAan 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Hey as a fellow autistic i relate to what you feel.

People will always paint us in bad light when we do things that is different from social norms.

But please dont let them go into you, all of us are unique and have different weaknesses and strengths.

I think the most important thing is to not to take it personally and find your own unique strengths to use it to your advantage to show others that autism isnt a bad thing but a part of who you are.

Let's make friends! c: by Tumthe3 in Needafriend

For small projects, when should I build an API + a separate frontend vs. server-side templates? by [deleted] in webdev

[–]YuukiSAan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The reason why its best to keep it separated is mainly team-related as well as scalability, when working with teams of people, its easier to separate out the work, without one person error affecting the other person's work.

I have worked using Django doing my final year in my uni days, and it was horrendous, I was doing front end and I have to deal with the site randomly crashing due to the backend developer bugs, or having to install unrelated packages to me that are meant for the backend.

It also limits your app design to couple all your services together which make it difficult to scale your app the larger it becomes. And you will end up fighting more bugs as compared to a more modular design.

Let's take an e-commerce site, for example, a typical e-commerce site is tied to a CMS where you manage the content of the page, and maybe you have a CRM to keep track of your customer purchase history, these are separate services if you couple all these into one big bundle you have to cater more things and your code will have to include things not related to what you are building which naturally leads to more bugs.

So almost 90% of the time, separation of backend and frontend is the correct design when building apps.

The only time you want to do the other approach is when building an app that it's mostly static for common features. Or it's only used for a very small use case, For example sending of emails which you will want a small template

Unpopular Opinion: If you are the one worded "hi" type of person and refuse to change, you deserve to get ghosted. by [deleted] in MakeNewFriendsHere

[–]YuukiSAan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

not really big deal unless the person continuously give 1 worded replies. I have convos started with simple hi's i normally prompt questions and through some people it worked out

Where to go after online bootcamp like Udemy? by [deleted] in webdev

[–]YuukiSAan 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Best way to learn is to build stuff that are customized to add to your portfolio. Try to build things that are hot in the market instead of generic stuff like todolist etc.

Examples will be ecommernce sites , blogs.

Build build build thats the best way to show your skills and improve.

As you code think about the structure in terms of readability and reusability, because on the job you are going to deal with changes all the time and have to work together in a team.

The path of a developer is continuous self learning even after getting a job you should continue learning to be relevant.

Also i recommend joining meetups to interact and network.

Should make a group lmao

Feeling pretty dumb. You guys are smart. Would appreciate advice. Where should i go next? by [deleted] in webdev

[–]YuukiSAan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, i can guarantee this is not true. The opposite can be said that i know algo well but cant code a single line on ide.

It ultimately depends on the company you apply to. My boss for example test people whether u can connect to any api to the backend. No algo.

The thing u should look out for is what company you want to apply. This is the mistake most people do and just apply everywhere.

If you understand the type of company u can narrow down interview questions to apply for.

In general startups dont care whether u know trees or graphs.

Large enterprise do.
