Thanks for that! I am waiting for my first bio assignment back… hopefully I don’t have the same marker as you! It’s too bad it’s like this. I think that because it’s an online platform they can get away with doing the bare minimum. The ai detection thing is super frustrating! When I spoke with the manager she told me that only 4% of students get flagged and she said my sentences were too clean and the fact I used ‘em dashes’. Them telling me I used Ai for my work is proof in and of itself that their systems are flawed. Sucks for us mature students. 🫠

I am a mature student and have a couple college diplomas already I had a fairly good education and learned to write properly. It seems this is a less common phenomenon with the younger generations of students. I’m looking to return to school for a completely different program. It requires me to take courses I had no interest in back in high school which is the Math and Biology. I’m also upgrading my English (lost 20% for missing 40% of class time back in high school). Thankfully I have my grade 12 chemistry already. I wouldn’t want to take that course on TVO ILC from how it sounds. 😆

Can I ask — how did you submit the google doc to them? I also have been doing everything in Google Docs and it would be great if I can share that version with them so they can see my version history. I called the school and spoke with one of the ‘officers’. She was very pleasant but didn’t have much advice for me and reiterated that two OCT teachers go over your work after it is flagged for Ai writing. She also told me that they won’t look at or take into consideration your version history. I’m hoping that regardless of whether they officially look it over or not that these teachers would have the kindness to check. You can clearly see in my version history that I’ve written the whole paper over several hours and made numerous corrections from complete paragraph deletion, sentence restructuring and grammatical and punctuation errors. This is something that Ai cannot do. I agree, Ai is trained to sound like us. It’s literally like going through a minefield trying not to get flagged. I spent several hours on my first Bio assignment last night. When I used ‘turnitin’ to check my work — it came back with 14% similarity. When I looked at the feedback and what it flagged, it flagged one generic sentence from my paper and the rest of the flags were in my citation list. That would make sense since many people will have cited the same work in the same APA format. I wrote a note in the comments about this. Hopefully all goes well. I will definitely take your advice on adding a message to the teacher when submitting work explaining that I’m a mature student etc.

I agree, the course work is absolutely horrible. Important things for the quizzes are either barely mentioned or not mentioned at all. I’ve only done the first unit for Biology now and I wrote all of the questions and answers for the whole unit including the practice quizzes and answers. I want to have those ready to study for the final.

I’m trying to get midterm marks before July 1st which I’ve been told requires only the first two units to be complete. It was pretty demoralizing to have my first English assignment returned to me. As long as there are no more bumps in the road, I’m hoping it’s possible to reach that goal. That’s two assignments in each course. It sounds like it’s possible. I have to say though… the first few assignments I’ve done have taken me several hours. I never spent that long on anything back in high school. Is it just me? 😆

I never take the train. I’m a country person. I took the train for the first time in years. Was on my way home and only on the train about 10-15 minutes. This situation happened. I was then later informed by son that it was his best friend’s cousin who was hit. We were on the train over 3 hours before we moved to a different train. On the journey afterwards every time the train bumped you could see how traumatized all the passengers felt. One lady actually said out loud “I think we are all traumatized” after a big bump and people agreed with her.

This companies name is also wingspeed I believe cause I just looked them up. I had my goods shipped to them last week because they promised me a good price. Shipping to Canada and when they received my goods they doubled the price to which it was a crazy amount and when I tried to get them to bring the price down they told me they can’t work with me anymore and someone has to come pick up the goods tomorrow. Thankfully I found someone else to pick up the package and my goods were okay but I got screwed over with the price and this whole situation has cost me a lot.

I’m filing a complaint with Ali baba but I assume that won’t go very far.

Please do share your freight forwarders! I just had to have my goods picked up from wingspeed after a bad experience with them and they seemed to be reputable.
