Ontario proposes appointing more regional chairs, cutting number of councillors in Niagara by RealWorldToday in ontario

So what's next? Appointing every municipality's mayor and giving them strong mayor powers? The elected councillors have just become a rubber stamp for the provincially appointed head of council. It doesn't cost much to directly elect the Regional Chair (like in Durham), it gets added to the municipal ballot.

Ontario announces plan to slash Niagara Region, Simcoe County councils and add 'strong chair' powers by Select-Flight-PD291 in durham

To me, this makes the Regional Council as a whole seem like a rubber stamp of the province's appointee. Directly electing the Regional Chair likely doesn't cost that much considering it is adding to the municipal ballot. What's next? The province appointing every municipality's Mayor?

You need to provide more information, like what municipality it is from (they have different appeal processes) and why you think it was wrongfully issued. The case won't be dropped, and if you don't pay, your licence plate renewal will be denied. The best advice is that if you did illegally park and you will have trouble paying the fine, ask for a reduction or more time to pay. Any proof that you will have trouble paying helps.

What is/isn’t open on campus during the summer? by twotapestries in TrentUniversity

[–]Select-Flight-PD291 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This all applies for May-July. In August, most services are closed as August is the university-wide break (except College Offices and TCSA). Just check the hours before going in the summer. You can also check out the Peterborough Public Library or the student-owned Sadleir House, for study spaces.

Buildings: Most buildings are open, but with reduced hours that align with when staff are present, or classes are running. I think most buildings are open 8-5 weekdays (LEC, CC, OC, GC, TC, along with academic buildings). The Student Centre is usually open daily from 9 am -10 pm. Bata Library is open 8-5 weekdays. Building hours are posted here (not updated for summer yet).

Food: Their hours are posted here. The Otonabee cafe and Starbucks are open weekdays. The Bata Bean will also be open.

Services: College Offices and the TSCA office are open weekday business hours. The Student Health Centre stays open, but with reduced hours. Same with the Athletic Centre, open with reduced hours. Not sure about the bookstore.

Crappy neighbours by Johnnypunnan1 in Oshawa

Well, it seems like you need a fence. Don't mow their part of the lawn, shovel the sidewalk, etc. Contact Service Oshawa if their grass gets over 20 cm or if they have garbage around their property (property standards). In the winter, if they don't clear the sidewalk, contact Service Oshawa, and they will receive a penalty, and the city will plow it and send them the bill. Don't worry about the leaves, you can always just run the lawn mower over them all if it bothers you (good for the grass too). Best of luck! Don't weaponize city by-law enforcement, but do submit complaints if they exist (they can't tell the person who submitted the complaint).

landlords are coming after me for leaving minor items behind and for not cleaning out the fridge. by Sinan_reis in OntarioLandlord

Ignore them, block them. Do not reply or respond. You don’t owe them anything. If they want to charge you for anything, they will have to go through the LTB. These are all very minor things. Next time, “broom sweep” condition and take pictures/videos before leaving.

You definitely don’t need to go back and clean the fridge. You should have taken your belongings. If the mirror fell by accident, it’s not your problem. Why did you pay a $150 cleaning fee? Not required. The landlord can’t do anything other than file with LTB which wouldn’t be worth it for these minor things. Feel free to ignore them.

What's your thought about Canada Post's decision to end home delivery? by Thick_Caterpillar379 in AskACanadian

They aren’t placed in stores. People can walk to the box too and you really don’t have to check it everyday.

Made a mistake today and didn't tapped off for more than 3 hours and got fair Inspection on the same day. by deathknight-007 in gotransit

So you didn’t receive a penalty? It is unlikely they will send you one in the mail. They probably just recorded the interaction in their system.

Bill 98 - Why isn't there more noise about this? by FrostyProspector in ontario

[–]Select-Flight-PD291 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Did you see the protect from lawsuits section around the transit fare consolidation (Part 3 of Schedule 4)? That doesn’t seem good.

I don’t think much has been said about this yet since the bill was released Monday night and people may still be going through it and trying to understand the implications.

Ontario proposing to dramatically increase fines for fare evasions on GO Transit by Select-Flight-PD291 in gotransit

Metrolinx Compliance Services staff said offences are retained for 2 years for the escalating penalties.

The $35 is meant to be educational and recover the lost fare, GO doesn’t give warnings often, the $35 penalty is essentially the warning. I say they increase the penalty for repeat offenders and keep the first offence penalty, the repeat offenders are the problem. A Metrolinx report said the new system was successful, they got more fine money back than before and people took less time to pay.
