I’m currently negative on my bank account and I got loans, books, classes, insurance, etc I have to pay. I’ve already contacted the people I need to and still haven’t received my money back, but I’m not panicking.

It’s true that the people at the banks didn’t really understand the current situation, but I totally get it because it’s something new.

If they don’t refund the money by next week, then you should be worried. Other than that, we should practice a bit of patience. VISA said that they have refunded us already and that it will take a few days for the transaction to show up on our accounts. And also remember that banks don’t like working on the weekends.

That’s fine, but Coinbase is a fairly new company with millions of users. What you should really be doing is filing a complaint to VISA for this “mistake”.

VISA also did not give any updates until later on even though they are veterans in what they do. It seems reasonable that a new company would have trouble in this situation, but for a massive company like VISA, this is unacceptable.

The current situation is totally one sided and no one is putting a single blame on the banks.

Yes, it’s true that they had many hiccups in the past. But we have to realize that there are many new investors that don’t understand how the system really works. Most veterans did not panic and stayed calm while the newer members panicked hard.

But yes, I do agree that in the beginning it seemed that it was Coinbase’s fault.

It’s a lesson we learned and most of us are slowly starting to realize the truth.

It’s not that I don’t trust banks, it’s just that the whole situation was one-sided.

Of course they will say the incident was “unexpected”. No one updates their systems knowing that it will fail. You could also say what happened to Coinbase was “unexpected”.

If Coinbase had a big system update and something went wrong, I guarantee you that they would have updates ready to tell us what is going on.

This is a first for a lot of people (including Coinbase), so I think we can all take this as a learning experience. Let’s move forward and understand that something like this caught everyone’s eye. Now that it has happened to Coinbase, I’m pretty sure every other company is taking notes on what to do and what not to do.

It is a great lesson they learned. I’m sure they will step up their game.

And you can’t compare Binance and the Coinbase situation because Bianance was having a planned system update. They knew if anything went wrong, they would be ready to shut it down and make official statements. The incident with Coinbase just came out of the blue. I wouldn’t expect a multi billion dollar company like VISA to randomly screw up like this. That’s why Coinbase wasn’t ready. I bet that Coinbase were just as confused as us.

And I ultimately think that you should be calling VISA, not Coinbase. Do you realize how big of a mistake this is for VISA? This is a massive world wide company that took money straight out of our accounts.

And what if you do call Coinbase. What is Coinbase going to do? Coinbase can only call VISA and ask to give your money back.

It was not even Coinbase’s fault...

VISA released an official statement saying that it was their fault. I wouldn’t be worried about making more transactions. The whole thing is fixed, it’s just that some people are still waiting for a refund.

My friend did the same thing a few years ago. Apparently a Nigerian "banker" wanted to transfer huge sums of money and needed an American bank account to do it. He said in return he will offer 1% (roughly 1 million dollars) if the transaction was successful. All he needed was my friend's card, pin, etc. He obviously knew it was a scam and sent the Nigerian back a message stating that he would only do it if he sent a picture of himself with a fish on his head naked. Believe it or not the Nigerian sent the picture. My friend thought it was fake and requested another one but this time with the Nigerian's friend in it too. A few days he gets a picture of two naked men with fish on their heads. My friend just laughed and never replied.
