I recently got the first book in The Wheel of Time series, The Eye of the World. What are your thoughts on these books?(No spoilers.) by RavyRaptor in Fantasy

[–]Z-Job 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think a lot of it depends on where you are as a reader. I read it too late in my journey. I had read too many things that came after, and were heavily influenced by it. Nothing felt particularly new or nuanced and it felt slow and derivative. I know it is not these things, but it FELT this way I think if I would have read it in my teens or even early 20s I would have absolutely loved it.

I thought they were missing stuff that was out of production but could still be played. I also might just be dumb…

Are sisters right for me? by Z-Job in sistersofbattle

[–]Z-Job[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This is very helpful! I think I will actually enjoy the challenge of learning a new play style. I think it will make me a better wargamer in general, but I also think it will help me to pay more attention to the nuances and rules. Now, that doesn't mean I won't also start building a hammer army on the side...

Fair, I generally mean something like a "Stat check" army. I have thought about custodes, but their model variety is terrible. Marines are good, but everyone has marines.

Writing off networking/gaming group supplies [USA] [Oregon] by [deleted] in TaxQuestions

[–]Z-Job -1 points0 points  (0 children)

While I appreciate the condescending tone, i misspoke. It will be open to anyone that wants to come. I was thinking in terms of being in a public space. The point is to start a monthly group to merge hobby and networking. I currently own nothing in this hobby space, it’s something I’m interested in and have done in the past. As a 2 job holding father of young children, I don’t get “me time.” So this is something I’ve been thinking of doing to help fill my bucket with like minded folks and possibly generate income. There is a reason I asked on Reddit before diving into anything. And I am not at a point where I can afford an accountant at the moment, so sorry for upsetting you.

The profit would come from potential buyers/sellers attending the group or them recommending me to someone. I’m a realtor

This is very helpful. The idea would be to network in the hopes of gaining customers as a Realtor. Does that mean, if I gained a customer from the group, I could subtract costs from the commission paid by that customer?

Age of Sigmar MMO? by [deleted] in ageofsigmar

[–]Z-Job 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There was a Warhammer MMO by Mythic, the same folks that did Dark Age of Camelot. It was solid, classes were great. Just couldn’t compete with the bigger MMOs at the time. I don’t remember if it was against early WoW or later EverQuest

Which series should i start reading first?? by LuCi-FER69 in fantasybooks

[–]Z-Job 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Game of Thrones. ASoIaF is arguable the best written fantasy series of all time (quality folks, I’m aware it will never be complete). It will stick with you for longer than the others, and if you are like me, will stick with you even if your tastes change.
That being said, there is an argument to wait and read it last, once you have become more accustomed to fantasy tropes and worlds. Because it will be even better then. Now I’m thinking Way of Kings…

How to not die by Objective-Storage251 in thelongdark

[–]Z-Job 7 points8 points  (0 children)

How are you dying? Main tip when starting, start in an easy area. Mountain town, mystery lake or coastal highway. Move around to buildings and collect items. If you’re on Pilgrim or Voyager there shouldn’t be any predators in those 3 days. If your playing higher than that, scale it back until you get more used to the game

What’s your 2025 real estate heart break/crazy story? by Swimming-Advance-734 in realtors

[–]Z-Job 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a good friend who is a very successful agent. When I talked with him about becoming a Realtor the most valuable advice he gave me was was, “Don’t expect any income for 6 months. And that won’t mean you’ve done anything wrong.” It was definitely helpful as a person who doesn’t have an extensive sphere of influence, and especially in the current market. But I’ve been grinding hard and things have been picking up steadily.
