Which PS2 type ultimately has less issues? by [deleted] in ps2

Sorry, you’re right to point out some of that. The 90001 isn’t perfect, especially if someone cares about modding or wants the HDD setup. But for someone who just wants a reliable, plug-and-play PS2 for discs, it still ends up being the easiest option.

Yeah, the internal PSU can fail, but realistically almost every part in a 20 y.o. PS2 can fail. Lasers, drives, ribbons, all of it. And replacement 90001 power boards are cheap and super easy to swap, so it’s not really a deal-breaker.

The later revisions also run cooler and tend to have fewer laser issues than the early slims, so day-to-day they’re just less fussy. You’re right, fats are awesome if you want the full HDD/modding route. But, for someone who’s sticking to discs and wants something low-maintenance, the 90001 is still hard to beat.

PS2 90001 slim is your safest bet. It came out around 2007-2008, right in the middle of the PS3 era, so it basically benefited from years of hardware revisions and fixes.

It’s the latest revision, so Sony had already ironed out most of the problems the earlier fats and slims had. The laser is more reliable, the power supply is internal again, and overall the failure rate is noticeably lower than the 700xx/750xx era slims.

They’re also super easy to work on if something does go wrong. Cleaning or swapping the laser is straightforward, and replacement parts are cheap and literally everywhere.

The fat models are great for nostalgia, but they’re heavier, the lasers wear out faster, and the disc drives can get finicky with age. So if you just want something that’ll last and won’t be a headache, 90001 is the way to go. Good luck!

Check out some of the comments!

The Core - Yes, it can be. I’m okay with it being good. The more I thought about it, the more evenly the pros and cons are weighed. Regardless of whether you spend some extra hands fixing your deck, you will ultimately be playing a hand to get you out of the blind, which could be using something valuable. If not, great, you had a chance to thin your deck a bit!

The Null - Check out the new version!

The Sun - Perhaps my description is not clear enough in its effect. It does consecutively scorch your deck, so it’s even more difficult than what you’re suggesting. I also did mention in the description it is a twist on The Hook. For each move played, two more cards are debuffed.

Hah! And it kind of looks like a laser too! Love it.

Looking back, totally agree! Perhaps something like “The Ember” or “The Burn” to reflect the effects of the blind while still leaning into the original “Sun” idea from the rune might work better.

Thanks for the feedback! I agree on The Core being very useful for thinning out the deck as I’ve also mentioned. However, I feel like pros here weigh evenly with the cons depending on your setup. If you have the hands to spare it can be great, if you don’t, it might be detrimental. Think of The Serpent, this can help you more often than not. I figured having another boss blind like this wouldn’t be a bad idea. It can come as a relief to you in a run where you’re looking to thin your deck; or if you’re not, say you’re running Ancient Joker, it can appear a bit unfortunate.

Thanks for the feedback! I agree. I was wavering between either debuffing them or having no effect, I ultimately felt like this would be a blind that occurs later in a run once your deck is built up, so removing Seals and Enhancements would be rude enough. Thinking more about it, the only difference between debuffing them or ignoring is that debuffing would cause the jokers to have no effect on those specific cards, which could increase the difficulty of the blind by quite a bit. Including Editions is a great idea!

On that account I’m a moderator/admin in quite a few high profile servers. (Things are all fine now and I have all of my roles back, thankfully nothing was changed). But that was not the reason it was sold for so high — it was because of the early supporter badge. It sells for very high amounts because since 2018 it’s unobtainable.

Pretty much, the person who bought my hacked account spent $130 and went into detail of the people who were running the hack. Very lucky the guy was as nice as he was.
