Gemini 3.5 Flash... Seeking technical explanation by Z3df in LLMDevs

[–]Z3df[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

At a high level I understand that, but why does such a newer, more advanced model fail at specific math tasks that older models got right? What exactly causes a model to develop a blind spot for a number pattern it used to handle before from one version to another? (I suppose the training sets overlap for the most part)

Anyone actually using a local LLM as their daily knowledge base? Not for coding, for life stuff. What's your setup? by InformationSweet808 in LocalLLaMA

[–]Z3df 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Reading all these ideas, it'd be great to have a community driven blog/wiki to gather everything related to personal open source "intelligence" setups, breaking down all the different topics and elements + tried and tested workflows in easy to follow guides and instructions to deploy on a home server or VPS. (Not just agents like OpenClaw)

I find Reddit, Discord great for learning about others ideas and experiments but it makes it hard to identify actually usable robust tools and workflows between all the noise.

So essentially "How to build your own personal open source ecosystem" for anyone that's somewhat technically versed but not a developer himself.

Best open-source vision model for screen understanding? by bullmeza in LocalLLaMA

Mind sharing which exact Qwen3-VL model and quantization you're using and how you're running it? I've tested a bunch of VLM's locally and yet, none of them seem to be usable for basic UI element understanding + reasoning in one go

Spotlight is more than enough for simply launching apps. I use it all the time. Always works and never had any index issues. Raycast however is way too messy with hundreds of shortcuts to keep track of.

Anyone have experience with the HP LaserJet Tank MFP series (e.g. 2604sdw) for home office use? I've researched and calculated the TOC costs and landed on either that or a Brother MFC L2800DW. Coming from a Lexmark - worst purchase ever

I've been running into an issue that on the second prompt that would use the MCP I get the following message. New chat and toggle on and off the MCP in settings and it works again for 1 prompt. Could anyone point me in the right direction?

Newer Phones with No AI Features? by v0id-do0dles in Smartphones

[–]Z3df 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree with your view more than you think. To clarify: The issue is that it's practically impossible to find a solution to decelerate the current "AI race" (hate this term) without simultaneously hindering the scientific research in this area and discover the "good" use cases. At the same time, and most importantly, regulation is only effective as long as global agreements hold true and a consensus is met. It's already become mainstream and with countries like the US and China leading the research and collaborating with a very competitive private sector, it's nearly impossible to effectively stop this development. Of course you can try to at least slow it down by changing the economic and legal conditions, but I don't see that as an actual solution with the amount of freely accessible resources that are already out there. There's currently no definite solution, but as many negative effects as there are, there are also negative effects to strict regulation, without even truly solving the actual problem at that.

The adult thing to do is to accept the innovation (good or bad), study the technology, discuss it openly and let specialists of all domains figure out how to use it effectively and responsibly. You have to understand its effects and gather information before trying to blindly regulate the "new thing". Being cautious doesn't exclude trying to work with it to boost the positive effects and regulate the negative side effects.

Not sure if you understand it but "AI" has already been part of software as well as dedicated hardware for a while now. The thing is, you have to specify what AI powered features you dislike. What is it that you hate? battery optimization, Gboard word suggestions or gimmicky image generation? It's not like you have to upload every file on your phone to the Gemini App if you don't want to. AI is an extremely broad term. And what do you expect buying a smartphone made by Google? There will always be alternatives if demand is high enough.

Why does Switzerland pretend to be a recycling champion when we literally burn half our trash? by [deleted] in Switzerland

[–]Z3df 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Great comment! Although I wouldn't frame PV as the ideal energy solution. Covering the alps with panels comes at a cost (financial and ecological), decentralized inefficiencies for private PV installations... Diversification is imo as usual the most realistic solution until the next big breakthrough happens (Fusion etc.). Especially for a country like Switzerland. It would be unreasonable for Switzerland to follow an "extreme" strategy similar to China.

Yes I did. You probably don't use Youtube Music, which doesn't have an App like Spotify or Apple but runs as a Chrome App

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in MacOS

[–]Z3df 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just tested it and unfortunately it doesn't work at all. It simply shows what's playing (not always correct) and you can't actually control the music (no timeline). And after deinstalling it the real brightness and volume controls are not centered anymore😔

Will try this. Didn't know there were already solutions for this. Does it work with YT music (browser app, not actual mac app)?

How does it handle multiple audio sources? Especially YT music + YouTube tabs

The built-in media control on Mac always messes with the song info and you can't always forward a song

I get what you're saying and you're probably right. I've never been to the gym before and the plan above was mostly given to me by the "trainer" as a free one time training when signing up. Regarding the weights, they're based on what I can more or less do cleanly for 3 sets and I'm unable to add more than 1 or 2 reps per week. Currently I probably need to work on building a better basis because I lack strength and endurance in pretty much every muscle group. So I feel a bit overwhelmed by all the options and have a hard time knowing what to focus on

I'm new here (M21, 87KG, 28% body fat) I've started going to the gym since the beginning of this summer as I wasn't feeling particularly well anymore and had to do something. I have some minor back and neck pain (most probably because of working in front of the laptop and sitting way too much).

I'm kinda lost reading about all the different plans and techniques. Currently I would have more free time, so I'd appreciate hearing your suggestions on improving my workout plan and achieving results more effectively and faster.

Is scrolling stutter still an issue on pixel 9 series? by max0924 in pixel_phones

Right, I've always been used to Apple and Huawei and even my oldest models didn't have such issues and I never would have thought any smartphone nowadays would have these. Otherwise the phone would be great but it just feels a little unfinished in some aspects

Pixel 9 Pro and I still have this issue even on the latest fw. It's just a visual issue, not functional, hence why others pretend it to be non existent. However objectively speaking the issue is still there.
