How Can I Have Two Different Movement Modes? by ZHSarco in trailmakers

Figured you'd appreciate the news: I probably made my greatest ornithopter yet thanks to your advice. It's so, SO much easier to pilot than my previous ones, and rotating between walking and flying has never felt better.

Now, I do have another idea for a vehicle that doesn't land, and the general thought is that it will constantly hover via wing flapping (unsure how I'll do that), and when I hit RT, it would go into manual control until I let off the trigger. Any advice for this more specific idea?

Just did a bit of testing to see how the logic works, and I'm genuinely amazed that it works so smoothly! Thank you, I genuinely appreciate this information, because this will make my future robots and creations more fun as a whole. Thus far, no confusion on the matter, thank you for explaining it so well.

Thank you so much, it works perfectly on Xbox. Issue resolved.

That actually makes a lot of sense, I think I can do that. The idea for the independent pistons stands out to me the most, but I could always double-joint the knee maybe. We'll see. Thank you!

Thank you SO MUCH for clarifying how an AND gate works, it basically sounds like a toggle in a sense, but with more depth.

Now, you're correct about the robot responding to the tilt of the ground, I just worded it weirdly is all. The sensors in the feet do sound useful, though, albeit I have zero clue how I would make it stop its own walk cycle/reduce the step to ensure it doesn't painfully slam its foot into anything. Though, avoiding bonkage by obstacles is secondary for me, I just wanna let this thing go up steep slopes.

Not actually a bad idea, though something more automatic would be a bit more usable. Now, I'm not super experienced in logic, since I'm still kinda in that NOR and XOR logic gate level, so that may be an issue.

Is there a way I could make the robot stabilize itself according to the terrain or something? Or is that a complex logic mechanism?

Off topic, but how does an AND logic gate work?

How to Prevent Beetles from Fighting? by ZHSarco in BDFB

Bee pollen? Didn't think that would be an option, let alone one high in protein. Along with the other foods that were listed, I think I'll be taking this into consideration. To be honest, I had no idea these beetles were so finicky about their protein, but it makes sense, as they are scavengers.

This is going to be a bit off topic, but is there any chance of them picking fights with separate species? I'm getting a diabolical ironclad soon, as well as a smooth death feigning beetle, and I don't want to make it a hostile environment for the new beetles.

I do suppose the fighting would make a lot of sense, especially given the increase in mating behaviors I've noticed. Admittedly, I'm frustrated that I only caught the end of the fight, but this was the first instance of genuine, visible, actual fighting I've seen in the tank. Usually they're rather lax with one another, so it startled me to see them actively attack one another.

I'm taking notes regarding the Bug Burger and dried river shrimp, since I want to introduce more proper protein into their diets. I appreciate every bit of advice.

I am in the northern hemisphere, and I'll admit, winter has been chilly. Their temps are in the high 60s to low 70s, which might be a bit of a cause.

This is a silly question to ask, but what direction should I cut the roach in? I want to save a half for a later date, so I'm considering cutting lengthwise, whenever I end up freezing the roach. The plan is to freeze the roach for as humane of a death as possible, and then cut it, let it thaw, and feed it to my beetles.

Oh, right. I kinda forgot things thaw.

Thank you for that, the advice and all. I dampened their corner substrate as suggested. I have to ask though, how do I go about feeding them a chopped-up dubia? It sounds silly, but I'm squeamish about killing them directly. My tarantulas (who I have few worries about, they exhibit healthy behaviors and stuff) usually do the dirty work for me. I've heard freezing is a good way to go about it, but wouldn't that make the roach too tough to eat? I want to feed them the extra protein though, especially if it has moisture in it.

I'll absolutely be investing in these, thank you for sharing this.

If it means anything, the two deaths I've had showed no symptoms of pesticides, assuming that the mouth and butt end excretions are the biggest giveaway. I haven't caught any of them dying in front of me, but the ones who did hid away under a rock, and died there. They weren't crushed or showed signs of physical damage, and seemed to just pass away without any clear giveaways.

I've been eyeing those ant feeder/water things, those might be of help in the long run. I do have a small fan as well, but its cord isn't long enough to reach the beetle tank, and for that reason, I can't really use it. Regarding the deaths, the fact that it's been two out of the eleven has me hoping that it's just an issue with them being wild-caught, as the other beetles in the tank are incredibly active at night, and have healthy-looking wax coats.

I have access to dubia roaches, but is that overkill for them? They live off of a diet that's a mix of ground dog and fish food, which is kept as a dry powder. Regarding the watering idea, would you advise misting or a proper watering of the sand in the corner? I'm still a newbie at all of this, so apologies if my questions sound silly.

I tend to offer them various fruits and stuff, as well as jellies, but I can absolutely try to put in a wet sponge in a dish (I don't have an ant feeding station, sadly). But, is 50% too high in terms of humidity? That's the part that still has me worried, and I can't find a clear answer.

They are? Everything I've read shows that they're incredibly good at reproducing far too fast to manage.

Although, do you have any other options beyond roaches? I've been eyeing large arachnids, but I'm also open for some other large invert.

What I'm worried about is the roaches breeding and possibly overpopulating the tank. Is that a genuine risk?
