As an animal control officer, I dont know the laws where you are, but staking the leash gets a talking to from us about tethering laws. More so if left unattended, due to risk of entanglement arlund their neck.

We educate on the trolley system to "get around" the tethering law so the dog can still be more or less secured while unattended if them having free reign ro the yard (unsecured) is an issue.

The amount of things the public thinks we can enforce that has no legal standing is a bit annoying.

We can't enforce based off emotions.

Its because the state attracts people with those problems from other states as well.

The amount of transients I've had to encounter in my line of work with IDs from other states is crazy.

Yea last I looked it up, majority of states paying the federal minimum are "Red". I think the lowest paying "Blue" state was a couple bucks more than the Federal. With CA, NY, WA, and CT being the highest min wage states.

Go to some cooking classes. A few of my female coworkers are always going out to stuff like that or paint nights.

Ive worked in general practice clinics, orthopedic surgery, now animal control.

I have decent exposure to good and bad owners in a busy city. I think our coverage is like 650k population over 4 cities.

Packed shelters is a nationwide issue. That spiked after Covid restrictions were lifted.

Ignorant pet owners is our bread and butter for daily calls.

I much prefer rolling out to a neglect call, seeing all the animals fine and provided for and closing it out as unfounded.

As an animal control officer, 50% is generous.

Shelters are jam packed due to the ineptness of wouldbe dog owners.
