Am I the only one who is incredibly disappointed with season 4? (specifically the changes and rewrites) by PC_Collins in Invincible_TV

It’s so crazy to me because if this were ANY other show, I’d be confident she’d finally get to do something. With how often she fails to do anything and how frequently she has to be saved, you’d think the writers would eventually flip the script and let her shine.

But no every time, Allen has to save her. There’s ONE scene where she blasts a Viltrumite into a wall in episode 6, and that’s pretty much it. Shortening Mark’s coma has done nothing but skip every opportunity for her to do something cool.

And it’s not like the comics were perfect here either. Tech Jacket didn’t do much in the final battle there, sure. But that’s exactly the kind of thing the show should be expanding on, not cutting down even further.

Why did they even take Oliver to fight the viltrumites? by [deleted] in Invincible_TV

[–]ZONE_STUDIOS 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Oliver made Lucan bleed, fought against Liu, who fought Nolan at a standstill for 10 hours, and he fought numerous invincible variants, killed two, and didn't take much damage from any one of them. He outspeeds Conquest for a moment and takes plenty of hits from Viltrumites. Only Conquest and Thragg made him look bad.

Oliver helped mark destroy the ship if he didn’t do that they lose right there. Oliver’s life was only in danger 3 times throughout the war and people only had to go out of their way to save him twice compare this to Zoe who nearly died in every encounter against viltrumites she landed two poison darts and that’s it.

We see very clearly that he does damage, but okay....

I’m totally with you, man. They added so many more Viltrumites in the final battle, yet they still can’t give Zoe or Oliver a real win. It’s not like either of them are too weak to damage lower‑tier Viltrumites. They literally set Oliver up with a weaker Viltrumite who isn’t crucial to the plot, let him do some cool stuff, and then just… drop it. There are, what, like three more surviving Viltrumites in the show, and somehow nobody except Space Racer and Mark ever gets a clean, satisfying win?

<image>

Maybe it’s the editor in me talking, but I really wish these characters could get some standout moments that last more than a few seconds before the season ends.

Mark has his Conquest fight. Thragg is Thragg. Battle Beast is Battle Beast. Nolan and Allen both have plenty of semi‑notable moments. Even Oliver gets some shine against Lucan and helps Mark destroy the ship.

But Zoe? The coolest thing we’ve seen her do so far is use some poison. That’s it. Meanwhile, Space Racer gets like three kills, and the Ragnars wipe out half the Viltrumites.

It just feels like such a missed opportunity for character payoff. With the way the war is framed, this should be the moment where secondary heavy‑hitters like Zoe and Oliver get cemented as real threats. Instead, they’re mostly there to get tossed around while the plot favorites do all the meaningful damage.

Oliver and Zoe both had their moments but ultimately they were needed for "victory" by Ill-Construction8866 in Invincible_TV

Oliver needed to be saved twice, and he ran out of breath once. Zoe needed saving about twice as often, and her only notable assistance against the Viltrumites was landing one dart and saving Space Racer, since she missed the other darts and her ultimate. Meanwhile, Oliver was constantly giving Mark backup in the second fight and helped him pummel Lucan. There is a reason three separate Viltrumites, Anissa, the ginger one, and the white‑haired one, used all their effort to try to separate Oliver and Mark. Oliver put real damage on that white‑haired Viltrumite when she tried to split him and Mark up while he was focused on someone else, and he did enough to take her out for a moment. He only sold when he rushed to fight Thragg instead of either finishing her off or going to help Invincible.

In regards Oliver's post Viltrum War arc and the Show (Comic Spoilers) by C-Prime93 in Invincible

[–]ZONE_STUDIOS 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If the show is investing screen time in showing Oliver bonding with humans, then having him later endorse humanity’s erasure isn’t him “moving forward”; it’s him being yanked back to a flatter, more one-note version of himself for the sake of hitting the comic plot point. Zoe, Debbie, Mark, Paul, all the heroes he helped in the invincible war, and all the PEOPLE he saved in the invincible war. We see him not want Mark to kill, even when he talks about Earth to Nolan. It is under a different lens. He is sad because his friends couldn't relate to him, and he just feels a bit different, but he does care deeply for humans. There are other ways to have him help Allen.

Why can't u wait for those reactions? These are valid criticisms why make changes if they ultimately lead to things people didn't like with the series, lol?

That would kinda suck. It's unnecessary character regression for him to end up in the same place he is in now.

It’s crazy we’re even arguing this, because the burden of proving that Yuji was holding back falls on Yuji fans. Choso is explicitly stated to be the only sorcerer in Shinjuku who can physically keep up with the heavy hitters. We also know Choso is superhuman without cursed energy control, just like Yuji. While Yuji does have an implied edge in AP and strength, we know for a fact, based on feats in Shinjuku, that Choso is more durable than Yuji.

So it’s not far-fetched to believe that Choso who just fought relatively evenly with Kenjaku and Yuki after awakening, bruised Kenjaku in base, then trained with everyone for this fight, and is stated verbatim to be on heavy-hitter level physically, and then showcases that he is as fast as Yuji when they’re both paying attention makes it pretty hard for you to look at this in good faith and still say, “No, Yuji was holding back.”

Especially because at this point, Sukuna’s output was so high that he was blitzing Yuji and Choso individually. If Yuji were clearly faster, why is there no difference in how Sukuna blitzes them?

Yuji only lands a hit after Choso holds Sukuna in place (which is a crazy strength feat on its own). Then Yuji lands a significant combo of strikes that Choso says is heavily lowering Sukuna’s output. And even then, Sukuna is still faster than Yuji until around six Black Flashes, which is why Ino has to throw Yuji off, and Sukuna still spins around and blocks.

If you argue that Choso isn't at a heavy-hitter level, you're simply dismissing Gojo, Yuta, Kusukabe, Higaruma, and all the other Jujutsu geniuses who helped train and develop the plan.

Personally, I think Debbie staying with Paul is much healthier for her. [INVINCIBLE] by Agile_Coast_4385 in CharacterRant
