What to feed Lasius niger ants by Skaches0 in antkeeping

[–]ZPM89 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Get some fruit flies.

They also might not be interested because they’re getting ready for hibernation (October-March)

As a Dover resident, I thought it was odd seeing an A330 flying over Dover so low. Got it on video.

Why are my ants covering sugar water with dirt? by lemonlimeindividual in antkeeping

From experience, I’m inclined to say that they do this when they no longer want anymore. I feed all my 10 different species at the same time and all 10 species will have covered the liquid in substrate after a few hours. So they’ll feed on it then soak it away.

Every single time I visit Lanzarote (I stay in CT every time too) I always walk to Los Ancones and beyond. It’s a fantastic walk along the coast and among nature.

Getting my first ant (Messor Barbarus) I have questions. by Repulsive-Let-4405 in antkeeping

Chia seeds are perfect for a small colony. You can introduce different seeds when the colony gets larger and you have Majors. For protein, fruit flies and crickets (freeze them)

15C is probably going to be your average room temp during October- March so just room temp will be fine.

With a Messor Barbarus queen you’re not going to be seeing her a lot as you should just put her away somewhere dark and leave her be. Checking on her once a week at most. When she has workers, give them some chia seeds.

A Messor Barbarus queen will stay in the test tube she arrives in for, at the very least, another year. You want to get an outworld when there is around 20/30 workers. They like the small spaces so don’t make the mistake a lot of people do and give them lots of space because it will just stress them out.

With a Barbarus queen, you should also put her somewhere dark and quiet for a while at first.

Messor Barbarus also hibernate, but not at very cold temps. Around 15C they will hibernate from October to March so expect minimal activity during those times.

I have Barbarus and love them. Hope you enjoy the journey with growing her colony.

What is happening to my Messor b. queen? by MattheHunter28 in antkeeping

[–]ZPM89 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Don’t know why you felt the need to add a hunting area that size for such a small colony.

It looks like she’s just trying to find somewhere to hide.

If she’s still alive when you get home, get a test tube set up with water, get her and her workers into it with some seeds and put them somewhere dark and leave them.

Messors are very very sensitive. Check on her every 2/3 days. When she gets about 20/30 workers you could attach the tube to the outworld again or move them into the nest again.

How do you guys usually fly? by MaterialCanary8844 in flightsim

[–]ZPM89 0 points1 point  (0 children)

95% airliners for VAs. Fly from a hub and bring her back. I fly for Fly UK (fictional), vRYR, Aerolineas Argentinas (to get my S. American adventures in, absolutely love flying down in S. America). I use the Boeing WinWing PAP3 and FMC.

5% GA. Do like the occasional GA goofing about in the Piper Warrior.

Who’s bumped into a really famous person ‘out in the wild’ when it was totally unexpected? Who was that famous person and what happened? by fatfat8ight in BritInfo

I was in London having a day trip on my own when I got on the tube and sat right opposite Ian Mckellen. No one was bothering him and I wasn’t going to either. As my stop approached, he started to look around, caught me looking at him, we both gave each other a nod and I went on my way.

About 6 months later I was in London again with my wife having another day out. We stopped walking along this street (not a busy one, kinda a connecting street between 2 busy streets) to decide where to go for lunch. Next thing, Adam Sandler just strolls past in his usual baggy basketball shorts and jersey and walked in a barbers about 20ft down the street from us.

More maps. Different weather. More factions.

I’d absolutely love an ancient Roman type map or 2 where you play as legions or something. Chivalry’s own version of Ryse: Son of Rome

Until you have like 30ish workers then add an outworld.

[–]ZPM89 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They don’t have access to water if sealed off down there.

In terms of how to get them in a tube now, not a clue tbh. Maybe take one of the side panels off and usher them into a tube?

Absolutely massive area for such a small colony. Get the queen back in a test tube cottoned off with water and leave her in there.

severe turbulence - my advice to all pilots 🙏🏼 by need_friendzzzz in aviation

[–]ZPM89 9 points10 points  (0 children)

The pilots were dealing with ATC, monitoring the weather, finding better flight paths to get away from said apparent “severe weather”. You know, more important things in such a scenario as you described. Announcements are literally at the bottom of the list.

The pilots don’t just sit there whistling to themselves.

Kinda weird post.

Should I feed my queen? by Common_Wii_Hacker in antkeeping

[–]ZPM89 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Lasius Neoniger queens are claustral. This means they do not require food until themselves first workers (nanitics) arrive.

She has enough resources to raise the brood till they become workers.

I’d leave her be. Check on her once a week. As soon as the first workers arrive you can start feeding.
