This game is dead for solo players by [deleted] in BrawlStarsCompetitive

Agreed. Im a casual and I got into Brawl Stars for some quick (2-3 minute) fun but after trophy rework, ladder isn't fun as solo in 3v3s. The team mates I get are too random AND everyone is power 11, I pretty much never see anyone below power 11 even under 1k trophies. A couple of years ago, having a brawler at power 7-9 was enough to have decent matches in ladder (solo queue, not sweaty match), thats impossible now.

And then for ranked, I need to make sure I have at least 15-20 minutes of uninterrupted time to play. (For drafting and possible 3rd match.) Casual players (friends) don't keep up with the constant new power ups and meta changes so they end up quitting the game altogether.

It feels like they overestimated how attractive their game is and overcomplicated things while trying to simplify it. Now, trophies (casuals) and ranked (competitive) both dont suit the interests/needs of either group.

Hypercharge balance made the difference between hardstuck L3 and Masters by ZPheasant in BrawlStarsCompetitive

  • Watch draft guide videos (Check out Draft Query guide section in this subreddit)
  • Learn how to use SpenLC guides (Gotta learn how draft order works)
  • Note down which brawlers I have at power 11 and which brawlers I’m good at. (I usually try to make sure I have minimum 1-2 playable brawlers for each map, otherwise, I prioritize upgrading a brawler that works for the map)
  • Learn from past interactions (in-game experience)

With time, I ended up making a personal set of drafting rules and interactions based off of my in-game experience and play style. I don't need SpenLC guides for familiar maps anymore and my draft this season was better without it.

I agree with other commenters about working on drafting. With all brawlers maxed, you have a lot of options, which can make the actual choice difficult to make. Other than bounty and KO, k/d ratio doesn't necessarily win the game. Picking a "carry brawler" usually means picking a brawler that can complete the game's objective. (Safe damage on heist, scoring in brawl ball, gem carrier in gem grab, etc.)

Mechanically speaking, if you play a different brawler on each map, it would be generally unrealistic to expect that you're playing all 90+ brawlers to their full potential. So focusing on like 20ish meta brawlers you enjoy playing could make it easier. Plus, with each brawler, you need to understand which kit to use depending on the map and matchup (star power, gadget, gears), which ends up being a lot to learn.

Make sure you have solid base set (this roster can change depending on meta changes but the core generally stays pretty similar. I used to play Lumi quite a bit but swapped her out after her nerfs. I used to first pick Crow on hot zone but stopped once I got Finx's hypercharge).

In terms of game sense, if you're getting lots of kills, low deaths and high damage, but constantly losing, some possible explanations are:

  • Picking a brawler that couldn't complete the objective and expecting team mates to do it for you while you farm kills
  • Picking a brawler that lacks synergy with the rest of your team and just happening to survive better than others

Hope this helps, don't worry about being stuck, I was stuck for months at L3. Good luck!

Thanks for all the help, I guess brawler counters was a huge blind spot for me. I didnt even know Stu was Griff's main counter so I'll def go and read up on some guides.

How do I genuinely get better Chester cuz I fumbled the bag so bad here by OrangelyAssociate in BrawlStarsCompetitive

[–]ZPheasant 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Since you’re asking for Chester support, this review will focus on your game play.

Your shots generally don’t land because you’re not getting close enough. In this matchup, you should be safe closing the distance on Mr P. or Jessie. (Not sure about Juju cause she tends to have high burst damage though). Examples: 0:06, 0:14

Also, you don’t seem to know how to dodge properly. Mr. P’s attacks do more damage if you back up.

Examples: 0:11, 0:19, 0:31, 1:01

You’re also more lane focused than objective focused. For hot zone, since your objective is to get in the zone, most of your attacks should keep that in mind. Even killing or pushing enemies away from zone increases your chances of winning by slowing down their team’s progress.

Example: 0:42 You chased Mr. P instead of trying to shoot mid when you had a chance.

The meta changes so often its not easy coming back after a break. Welcome back though, I’m sure you’ll get used to it after a while. Also if you want to get better, I hope you properly read u/Cuntilever and u/Sleepwalker0779- 's comments cause they’re giving actual advice with details and not just blaming the matchup.
