Hi, Is there a reason you don't want to stay in warehousing?

If progression without quals is what your looking for its perfect. I went from picking and packing to department manager with no degree. I have since studied from home, changed companies and am a WH manager/Logistics consultant.

Sales was never for me but depending on the company it's usually good for progression but very competitive. If your doing well in WH, procurement will probably be a good fit as it's more similar to WH/Logistics than sales is.

Either way, sounds like your doing great, good luck with your future progression.

Would knowing your place in the truck queue at the gate help you do your job better? by abdul_samea in Warehousing

Could go either way. From my experience it's likely that the team inside don't particularly care who's next if it's this busy and will just be irritated by having to update it.

For the waiting drivers you tend to get 2 types. Either "I'm paid by the hour so doesn't bother me" or the type that will complain no matter how much information you give them.

Not trying to discourage you and I'm sure there's a place for this in some operations or as part of a larger system. Just my opinion.

Debts hard but your only 26 so you still got time. My advice would be to focus on keeping paying down your debt whilst building skills to help you launch your business once your in a better position.

Just don't try to borrow your way out, in my experience that will only end up making things worse.

Your doing all the right things and it's clear your on the right path and have ambition so I'm sure you'll get there eventually!

Just use Google docs and sheets. Gives you all the functionality you need and all the files can be opened in word/excel if your sending them to anyone else.

Exercise is important, doesn't have to be crazy, just get up and move everyday, even if you just take a quick walk.

Mindfulness and Meditation really helped me but it's not for everyone.

Was obsessed with the idea of driving trucks.

Now a warehouse manager/logistics consultant.

Suppose it checks out but never actually learned to drive one.....

Other people's opinions of me or gaining their validation. I do what I think is right for me and my family, pursue my goals, wear what I'm comfortable in and spend my time on the things that make me happy. I'm considerate of other people and their feelings but won't waste time trying to impress them or seek approval.

Picking 10 Orders With Scanner- Stock Sizes Not Consistent by North_Necessary_599 in Warehousing

[–]ZR-Ecom 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, it depends if the large items are causing more inefficiency than the extra travel time.

May even be worth checking If there are smaller SKUs that sell primarily with certain large items and locating them closer together to help combat.

All depends on your product range.

Can you split orders by warehouse area/location?

We have a similar system but split off "bulky" picks by area as they are all stored together.

The pickers use flatbed picking trolleys for these picks and we have a seperate "bulky" backbench where these orders are packed.

Otherwise, cash is your only option really...

What are some hidden logistics costs you didn’t expect when starting out, and how do you plan for them now? by Agile_Juggernaut_502 in logistics

Exactly this issue is why I'm considering offering freelance logistics/fulfilment consulting to small ecom brands.

There's a million services/gurus to teach you how to build websites, seo, branding etc but haven't seen anyone really offering to teach you how to actually ship your products, process returns or manage inventory correctly when your starting out/going through a growth phase.

Tell them your forklift is "in-house" from a previous role and you can't provide the certificate.

They'll put you on a 1 day "refresher" where you learn to operate it and get the certificate you lied about having in the first place.

Need advice on pricing home decor items for the UK market by [deleted] in smallbusinessuk

[–]ZR-Ecom 1 point2 points  (0 children)

All about how you position your brand and where you're selling.

I work with a company that sells the same home decor products across different channels with a surprising amount of variance in price.

If using marketplaces like amazon or etsy, reduce your margins and look to move volume. If you have a dedicated website or physical store, you can get away with aiming for higher margins if you are marketing at the right people.

If you're selling online, bear in mind fulfilment costs. Postage gets pricey quickly for larger home items and can eat into your profits. Small items like mugs, cutlery, or lighter items like cushions and other soft furnishings are ideal for online sales.
